It seems like I don't see nearly as much violence on TV these days, though I notice more sex and still hear a lot of profanity (especially from women). So I don't know.

I really think it's been in style since the 60s (even earlier, with teenagers ;D) It just wasn't on TV so much, more in the movies, and b-films, etc

I think he means the in-your-face attitude that started in the 90s. IF so, then yes, it is dying off pretty well. Most TV programming are now aimed for the children demographic.
