apparently they are moving away from the patriotic blue and white stars to give her more "global" appeal

next thing you know captain America will become blue and green and called Captain Earth... ::)

They've tried this before, in the 1990s (not to mention the even earlier "Emma Peel" look) and it didn't go over well...

Yeah I remember Captain Planet but I was thinking in terms of national identity..... ie- removing if removing her star shorts makes her more appealing globally then they should change Captain America to have more global (but not green) appeal. After all Captain planet was mostly about saving the earth thru recycling and conserving it's natural resources

The other superheroes all save us from something or somebody out there. The message that we have save ourselves from ourselves rather than from a "them" just doesn't resonate with the American people. We have nostalgia for the Cold War now. We do not have nostalgia for Jimmy Carter's energy-conserving sweaters. We like "Mr. Gorbachev: Tear down this wall!"
