Subject: Has Facebook changed a lot?
Written By: matt on 06/15/10 at 3:02 pm
edit: title is kind of weird, I mean if Facebook has changed culture or how we think, not if Facebook itself has changed.
Just come to think of this. I'm not sure if I'm talking crap here, but now it's like you keep in touch with everyone you have ever met. Maybe not "keep in touch", but at least you see what is going on with them and stuff. You also will also see old pictures all the time. Maybe this makes time seem slower and that life doesn't really have any fases? :p I don't know where I'm going with this, but I just want to know if anyone agrees lol.

I personally have nothing to do with Facebook...but it looks a useful tool to find and stay in touch with old friends (especially out of town or overseas). I don't have any of those ...so I don't use it at all.
My 18 year old daughter however seems to use it 24/7. If she wants to go to the movies, she contacts a friend via facebook...and that friend promptly tells all of her friends...and suddenly they have 10 people going to the movies (who may or may not know each other)...with no-one really organising the shindig. It always ends with them missing out on movie tickets because they can't organise anything with more than 3 people involved. Then she turns around and complains that she didn't want to go with all of those people.
I suggest she simply phone the person she wants to go with and then work it out from there. She still does it all via facebook though.... :-\\

Well, I think it's been a useful way to keep in touch/reconnect with people who I haven't seen in a while. I always wonder what they're up to now. It's a great tool.
My mom joined almost two years ago and was able to relocate some of her old high school classmates to plan her 40 year class reunion. So it's useful in that regard too.

Yes it has!
A few of my friends got dumped for no apparent reason (This includes you, Deb! Wasn't that weird)?

I noticed that with Deb too...but then her account came back. And then another friend of mine (who apparently cancelled her FB account last November) suddenly showed up again in March, but that lasted for only a day...but then, on Friday, her account came back to life again! But this time it's still hangin' on.

I think the sheer number of people using the basic platform and for such a wide variety of purposes has caused Facebook to spontaneously develop its own subcultures. The Internet has a lot in common with the outside world. For instance...Do you want to get ripped off or diseased? Go to the part of town with casinos and the brothels...

Do you want your failures to be recorded under your real name, forever?

Don't fail in front of the whole world. Just fail in front of your boss, that's good enough.
