Subject: Booty Popping Babies

This is just so wrong on so many levels. 8 and 9 year old girls in lingerie booty poppin' to "Put A Ring On It" and the parents saying it's ok.

To me, this is the same kind of mentality as those beauty contests that JonBenet Ramsey was in. What is really absurd is the fact that the parents don't see anything wrong.

Just because these kids can emulate something, doesn't mean they should be doing it - or even that it's entertainment! I could just cry; truly. My daughter is 7 and I'm doing everything to keep her just that age!

You are doing the right thing, let them enjoy life as a 7-year-old while they are 7. They can enjoy the life of a teen/young adult when they are that age, not now.

Heh heh... I thought the same thing. ;D
Now back to the subject at hand. I find the video to be very close to being perverted. They did a segment on this on the CBS Morning News, and Maggie Rodriguez :-* was clearly outraged by the video. She usually sort of takes a "just the facts" approach, but this time she had to let 'er rip.
Yeah, the parents who allow their kids to do this stuff are not minding the store. Just like Billy Ray Cyrus, who recently said that he "sees nothing wrong" with Miley lap-dancing and grinding her booty on a 44-year-old Hollywood player. 8-P
What's next? A group of 8-year-old elementary school boys doing a remake of Johnny Wadd films? ???

You know, I have to admit that even though the routine was totally wrong it was also very complex and physically demanding and it obviously required long hours of practice to perfect it, so I have to give props to those girls for being as talented as they are.
Having said that, good God. Little girls are supposed to be cute, not HOT. :o :o :o
Now I feel like a creep just for watching that. :P

Again, Al, just because they CAN do it doesn't mean they should. I don't care how long it took to learn that dance. Can you imagine those kids practicing for such a routine? "No, no, you have to grind your hips more!" or "Now girls, this is know as the "Come Hither" look" - UGH! 8-P

Hey, that's disrespectful to Johnny!
But...you might be right.
Somebody made a joke about a Barbie Stripper Pole. I said don't rule it out.
There have been websites featuring scantily clad children in suggestive poses which were actually shut down and the webmasters arrested. I saw some of those pictures, and they were basically the same as what we see in that video. It's pedophilia under the guise of "art." What disturbs me more than the thought of some lonely old pervo getting off on that is the message it sends to little girls. Female children are already disgustingly sexualized in our culture. It's what AL-B was alluding to, when society emphasizes sex appeal as a value to preteens, it exerts pressure on them they are not ready to handle. It's bad enough when they're 16 (or 32 for that matter), let alone eight years old. I have two preteen nieces and they're both sickly hung up on looks and image. I sure wish they got to enjoy their childhoods for a few more years.

Having studied dance, I agree that they are good (man, could they nail those pirouettes). However, the choreographer could have made their routine more age-appropriate.

It gets a bit too risque for their age.

I took dance lessons for years when I was about that age. I had no idea what I wore for recital could be considered sexy (kinda). I recently saw a picture of me at one of my recitals, wearing a Canadian Mounties type jacket, eye shadow, mascara, lip gloss and pantyhose with nothing else. :o The bottom came down to that top of my thigh. I'm sure I was jiggling whatever I had with the rest of other dancers. I think it DOES really depend on what adults think, and if it's taken in the right frame of mind, it WOULDN'T be considered sexy.
Just like all of those child actors that are put into adult situations, like horror movies, you have to wonder if what they have to act out has any affect on their innocence.

I agree that they could dance well, but, as you say, they could have chosen something much more age appropriate. Elizabeth did a dance competition at that age to the song My Brother

I'm sure she thought the song was written about James. ;) :D ;D ;D
A couple of weeks ago, I got a DVD from my brother who put all our old home movies on it. Many of them were our old recitals. We looked nothing like that group. (Of course the school we went to wasn't that good. It wasn't until later that we received GOOD dance instruction and by that time the movie camera was broken and was never replaced.)

Exactly, back in our day, little kids did "Swan Lake" or something like that. Not a bawdy routine that would make Britney Speares blush!

The Bernie Mac show did a show about Nessa being a cheerleader and he went to the game and the moves were similar to the ones on the kiddie video. He walked on to the court and took her off of it. That is what should happen. The Bernie Mac show was brilliant.

The costumes were revealing and the dance moves were suggestive. BUT, the worst part was the facial expressions on the girls!!! OMG, I felt like I was watching The Pussycat Dolls or a bunch of strippers.
I have a 9 year old daughter and I would never let her dance like that not even in private, luckily my daughter has no rhythm. ;D

Salt and Pepper's hit song "Push It" would be another good one. Lots of bump-and-grind action in that classic.
Heck these kids could put out a whole video album of dances.
