I hope that the surviving original cast members at least get a shot at cameo roles. :)
Amazingly, show creator Sherwood Schwartz is still with us, at the ripe age of 93 !

Philip Seymour Hoffman as Skipper? I don't think so. I'm a big fan of PSH, but he's all wrong for that role!
Look Sherwood Schwartz is a crazy old man, just feed him his oatmeal and make sure he gets a walk in the afternoon. Bob Denver is dead. Out of respect to the one and only Gilligan, let Gilligan's Island rest in peace. PLEASE!

Even when it WAS original, it was considered drek for the great unwashed, not exactly Alistair Cooke material!

Heh heh...
The naming of the SS Minnow was Sherwood's way of tweaking then-Chairman of the FCC, Newton Minow, after he made this statement... ;D
When television is good, nothing—not the theater, not the magazines or newspapers—nothing is better. But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite you each of you to sit down in front of your television set when your station goes on the air and stay there for a day without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland.

Side note, I once met Newton's daughter Nell, who is a shareholder activist. She is a hottie for sure. :P

At first, I thought about John Goodman playing "The Skipper". He'd make a good one, too.

John Goodman would be a great Skipper, though if he's not Dan on Roseanne, he's Fred Flintstone! That works. You can't have a guy who played a smarmie preppie,* a gay porno cameraman,** and Truman Capote then play Skipper. I'm gonna see George Jr., Scotty, and Truman!
* "Scent of a Woman" (1992)
** Boogie Nights (1998)
*** "Capote" (2006)
Skipper wasn't gay...well, after a while on that island -- it was my take the "Little Buddy" was going on, Mrs. Howell wasn't interested, Mr. Howell was impotent,* and Professor was partying with both Ginger and Maryann.

* I got it, you could have a plot where Mr. Howell offers Professor half the Howell fortune if Professor could figure out how to synthesize Viagra out of palm fronds. Professor succeeds, but then has to deal with competition for Ginger and Maryann. Mrs. Howell STILL isn't interested, then Gilligan eats the stuff by accident and ends up with a priapism...
I was gonna have Terry Gilliam direct it (Gilliam's Island) and John Waters write the screen play!

Saw the link, they couldn't find a group photo with Tina Louise in it? I think that photo was of the group that did one of the television movies back in the 80's.
Anyway pretty sure I'll be missing any big screen version when it comes out.
But for giggles my picks for the characters
Skipper - Jim Belushi
Gilligan - Rob Schneider (maybe a little "old" but I don't follow much who's who in Hollywood these days nor do I watch much network tv so as to who a young "hip" actor might be to play this role, I dunno)
Professor - Greg Kinear
Mary Ann - Kirsten Dunst
Ginger - Julianne Moore
Thurston Howell - Craig Ferguson certainly bring a different twist to the Howells
Luvey Howell - Joanna Kerns
Saw John Goodman's name for Skipper. For those that remember he already played Skipper, remember one of those Roseanne episodes. Not sure what it was all about but the Roseanne cast took on the Gilligans Island roles in one episode.

I think John Goodman would work well as The Skipper.

Where does that leave Jay Leno?
Conan can be the professor, and Jay Leno can take the part away from Conan during filming.

Of all the people who have been mentioned to appear in a big screen version of "Gilligan's Island," I see no one has mentioned Leslie Nielsen as Thurston Howell III. His name has been mentioned as someone to play that character.
