OK, so Andy Dick was booked at the Funny Bone...forgive me if my humor is a bit juvenile, but, uh, we are talking about Andy Dick, so if the shoe fits.

He's gone from his own MTV show to playing dives in West Virginia?  That should give him pause in itself.  There's a saying attributed to Jimmy Durante, "Always be nice to the people you meet on the way up because you're going to meet them again on the way down."  Then again, maybe he just needs to can his agent!

I think you nailed it:  They're not A-listers.  You gotta stay in the spotlight somehow, right?  So if you can't get cast, get in trouble!
At least that's what celebs like Andy Dick and Britney Speares seem to do.  I think Gary Coleman has some mental health issues.  As for Leif Garrett, once the demon junk gets power of you, it's hard as hell to shake.  I know a guy who's been on methadone for 15 years.

Of course, the first thing anybody tells you about acting is it's a tough business.  Very few who go into it get regular roles in television and cinema, and most of those who do still only enjoy a short run of success.  The truth is most actors accept this and when their time in showbiz has come and gone, they move on with their lives.  Is the percentage of child actors who get in trouble with the law, or get hooked on drugs, or end up with psychiatric issues really greater than the percentage of the general public who does?

It's probably more the public aspect of it.  Average Joe doesn't have TMZ breathing down his neck when he does something stupid to get arrested.

Very true.  And it works.  I would never have heard of Andy Dick if he wasn't such a dick!  I never watch MTV and I can't stand the kind crap he "acts" in, but if he gets arrested or gets beat up by Jon Lovitz (I mean, who gets beat up by Jon Lovitz?), then it makes the news shows, which I do watch.

Actually, he was on Ben Stiller's show in the early '90s, but I wasn't watching much TV in college.
