Subject: Alas, Luke Wilson, we knew thee well.
Written By: JamieMcBain on 01/04/10 at 12:55 pm
Apparently, he went from indie film actor, to (shrudders) commerical ads.
And AT&t, no less.
;D

Worse yet, he looks depressed, chubby, and a former shadow of himself, in the ads too.

Oooo! Ouch! I like him though.
But, why would he be depressed? I don't read much celebrity news.

Because he's reduced to being an ad-man for AT&T

I found this in the Wikipedia article about him:
Wilson's weight gain was first noticeable when he co-starred as the portly character Ben Stone in 2005's The Family Stone. Wilson quantified the weight gain at 18 pounds, and noted that the change was deliberate so that he could better portray Ben, a documentary filmmaker and habitual marijuana user. By 2009, Wilson's increasingly weight became a tabloid phenomenon when he became the "brand ambassador" for AT&T Wireless.
I also noticed in 2007 he was in 6 different movies, but only 1 in both 2008 & 2009. He is suppose to be in The Frat Pack along with his brother Owen,Ben stiller,Jack Black,Vince Vaughan and Will Ferrell. I'm sure the majority of the rest of them had more than 2 movies in the last 2 years.

They probably offered him BIG bucks to do it.
T-Mobile has Catherine Zeta-Jones, and has used Molly Shannon, Chevy Chase, Charles Barkley, Avril Lavigne, Jesse James, Phil Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Dana Carvey, Darrell Hammond, among several others in commercials and/or print ads.
Good point. I thought he was doing a pretty good job in the ads, actually.

Well it's not like he's out there hawking Activia poop catalyst, Preparation-H butt ointment, or personal hygeine spray.
Pitching cell phones is cool, even if it is ATT. 8)

Yes but like Jaime Lee Curtis, he still has taken a step down.

I thought so also. I enjoy the ads
If Jason hadn't pointed it out I would have... using celebs to hock stuff has always been big business
Jamie Lee Curtis selling yogurt that makes you poo
Eva Longoria make up
Halle Berry Revlon
Ellen Degeneres Cover Girl and Amex
Karl Malden Amex
Dennis Hayesbert selling insurance
Sam Watterson selling whatever he sells.
Sally Field selling that old lady bone stuff ;D
Orson Wells sold wine
Hell if you pay attention to the voice overs you may be surprised at how many voices you actually recognize.
I see no need to condemn Luke Wilson cuz he's getting paid... plus he probably gets free iphones and free ATT
Justin Long claims he only gets 20% off apple products for those mac commercials but I suspect he gets more...
when Penny Marshall and Rosie O'Donnell did those kmart commercials Rosie talked about how it was embarrassing cuz Penny used to go in saying "gimme one of those and those and those" and she'd walk out with practically the whole store! ;D

Lets also not forget
OJ was hawking rental cars for years
Charlie Sheen pitching underwear
Cuba Gooding Jr. pitching underwear (before Charlie)
Kim Alexis promoting Hemmorhid
Kathy Rigby pushing tampoons
Erin Grey representing cellulite creme
Celebrity endorsement is very lucrative work when you can get it!

Jamie Lee Curtis also used to be the spokesperson for T-Mobile before they were T-Mobile.
William Shatner does Priceline.com
Star Jones did Payless Shoe Source
Michael Jordan and Cuba Gooding Jr. for Hanes
And don't forget all those Direct TV ads where the celebrities spoof roles that made them famous.
The best was Charlie Sheen for 'Major League': "Let's see how good this bruise looks in HD"
damn Jason beat me again... ;D

I think the point was not just his (Luke Wilson) commercial, but the fact that his movie career has not been as lucrative as it was from 1997-2007.

I don't know about that... his film choices have always been all over the map... in addition to doing those "great" indie films he also did Scream 2, both Legally Blondes, both Charlie's Angels movies, an ep of X- Files, some eps of That 70s Show...
says to me he's an actor who's interested in working not the craft itself...and there is nothing wrong with that.

So do Gene Simmons and his son, Nick (who, by the way, is YUMMY...if I were a few decades younger :P)

Speaking of things that start with "W" and rhyme with "more..." ::)
Just to clarify, I'm talking about Gene Simmons. Not his son, or MamaK! ;D ;D ;D
