I urge all who have not watched the movie "Network" to watch it a couple of times and all those who have to watch it again!!!!
**SPOILER ALERT**
In "Network," Howard Beal gets assassinated. Nowadays, MSNBC would hire him and co-opt him!

Now I'm sure. (It's not a comedy, it's a documentary from 500 years into the future.)

One of my favorite movies of all time. Owned the CED Disk, the Beta, then the VHS, and now the DVD.

I would like at this moment to announce that I will be retiring from this program in two weeks' time because of poor ratings. Since this show is the only thing I had going for me in my life, I've decided to kill myself. I'm going to blow my brains out right on this program a week from today. So tune in next Tuesday. That should give the public relations people a week to promote the show. You ought to get a hell of a rating out of that. 50 share, easy.

And then Budd "Hey man, nice shot!" Dwyer went and actually proved him right. If it bleeds, it leads.
But this isn't a Budd Dwyer thread. This is a documentary thread.

From John Carpenter's They Live, another historical reference work that fell out of the timeline between Network and Idiocracy, and graced our screens in 1988.

But I like Bud. He showed a lot more class than that Tom DeLay!

He sure did. That's why I say, Hey man, nice shot.

Normally I am all for gallows humor, and Budd Dwyer's special news conference surely provided me with plenty of fodder for an endless string of one-liners.
But I had to stay on the sidelines. A close friend of mine, whose brother also happened to have the same name as the disgraced Treasurer, had taken his own life a few years before. :-\\

Awkward :)
Actually, I kinda dug the Filter track as an appropriate tribute. Was too young to know/care about the backstory when it happened, but I remembered the event. When the song came out, it was pretty obvious to anyone who remembered the broadcast.

They Live is an awesome flick. Worth buying, not just renting, if for no other reason than the part about the bubble gum. But at least rent it. (Lots of iconic speeches/lines from the movie were sampled by... umm... Consolidated, Divine Misfire, Engorged, Snog, Thine Eyes, and I'm sure there are others. Any time a B-movie simultaneously manages to be insightful and get sampled by at least 5 groups, it's a must-buy for me.)
Anyone got some bubble gum? Futures are green and I'm all out.
