When I was down-and-out unemployed in 1990, I saw a big ad in the Bosses' Globe for the CIA Recruitment division. I just...entertained the thought for a moment. You know, James Bond kinda stuff. The I looked down and it said "Polygraph test required." I already had an FBI file as a leftist agitator (actually, I don't know what it says in my FBI file because I belonged to a far-left organization for a few years). Anyway, I'd also smoked pot, drunk booze underage, bought dirty magazines, and got busted redeeming other people's pop bottles. It was clear to the Federal Bureau of Investigation that I was probably a no-goodnik. And...uhhhh...they weren't too far off the mark. I didn't have a felony record or possess firearms so I don't think they were looking at me too hard. I was just one of thousands of people ranging from students to lawyers who get an FBI file for being associates of "one of those outside agitators" The CI is like a giant Norman Fell in "The Graduate"!
