Subject: Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld KNEW Guantánamo prisoners were innocent

George W. Bush 'knew Guantánamo prisoners were innocent'

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror, according to a new document obtained by The Times.

The accusations were made by Lawrence Wilkerson, a top aide to Colin Powell, the former Republican Secretary of State, in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed by a Guantánamo detainee. It is the first time that such allegations have been made by a senior member of the Bush Administration.

Not really a surprise, I think it's been well known for quite some time now. The real shocker is how high up the individual making the allegation is.

Yes, but there's a difference between what we all know and what can be proved, now they might be prosecuted

That's what SHOULD happen.  What's more likely is that Obama will continue to play nice and won't pursue it becuase he doesn't want to appear to be doing it for political gain.

Nope, won't happen. I'd be the first one to cheer, but it won't happen.

To be honest...Bush isn't a true conservative....He's a Neo-Con!

And that's very dangerous (Neo-Con that is)!

i think he's a conservative as consevatives govern. there are a lot of conservative philosophies that are incompatible with governance, so when they get into power, they improvise.

for instance, they know they can't just eliminate government, but because conservatives assume government is incompetent, they just use government as a way of promoting quid pro quos, not as a way of implementing policy. conservatives tend to be isolationist but are also enthusiastic about war, two incompatible philosophies, so the neocons implement that by overemphasizing aggressive warfare and dismissing diplomacy.

i think contrasting conservatism and neoconservatism gets way too much play. neoconservatism is what conservatism becomes once the campaign's over and they take office. do you think a country under a ron paul presidency would do anything other than collapse within a month?

Neo-conservatism is basically pro-imperialism.  You know, it has that screaming self-righteousness combined with an unquenchable thirst to control the world's resources.  In the U.S. it also has an anti-Arab streak a mile wide.  That's why the neo-cons love Daniel Pipes so much.

Ever heard the book "The Forty Years War"?

It's about the Neocons.
