Subject: Coburn: No Viagra for Sex Offenders amendment
Written By: MaxwellSmart on 03/24/10 at 7:53 pm
One strategy for holding up the health care legislation is offering up inane amendments the the Senate reconciliation bill to send the bill back to the House for re-vote. Sen. Tom Coburn came up with the stealthiest yet:

The Coburn amendment would exclude coverage of erectile dysfunction drugs prescribed to convicted sex offenders, such as rapists and child molesters? How can anyone be against that?
But when you read the other amendments offered up by Coburn, you see him tying No Viagra for Sex Offenders to stipulations against increased government spending on health care and reinforcing bans on abortion funding.
Nevertheless, if you vote against Coburn's amendments, your opponent in the next election can say you're in favor of giving boner pills to child rapers.
Very tricky, Tom!
