Subject: Oathkeepers... yet another bunch of right-wing traitors have organized

Oath Keeper Profile

You have to worry a bit about a group even Bill O'Reilly thinks is unhinged.

We haven't seen this many hate groups since Clinton was in office.  The problem is they now have Internet access.

I'm sure you'll notice that many of the things they dislike are things their hero King George W signed into law.  They only became nervous when it was no longer "real Americas" in the executive office.

These guys are definite lightweights if they are sporting the Bushmaster .50 calibre.

No self-respecting gun enthusiast would be caught with anything less than a Barrett Industries .50 calibre firearm, preferably a repeating bolt action or semiauto.  ;)

Well the one guy that did get busted did have a grenade launcher...

I'm sure the gun dealers love these guys.  What a great way to help move more merchandise out the door.  Quick, quick, buy it before Obama takes 'em all away.

And hike up the price to boot.  I guess they are also buying gold, which is also a a premium.  In terms of their potential threat to the army, barring mass mutiny, as Salvador Allende asked his more radical advisers on the eve of the coup, "how many masses does it take to stop a tank?"

These guys sound like a bunch of conspiracy nuts.  Speaking of which...

Today I was surfing the web and was absolutely amused at a link that I found.  There was a huge, long dissertaion by a self-described "government whistle blower" who outlined his theories as to how a former employer of mine was up to its neck in arming Saddaam.  Several coworkers of mine were mentioned by name, I got a real laugh out of it.

Heres the link

The guy who put the site together is either (a) doing the whole site as a joke or (b) mentally ill and hallucinating.  He knew the various names of some lower-level workers, but then his understanding of company names, where they were located, etc were completely a fantasy.  He ends up accusing Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2, (he'll probably add O'bama), as well as low level employees of one of the most obsolete steel mills in the country and the Japanese Yakuza of all being part of a vast conspiracy to arm Saddaam.  He accuses things as crazy as selling Saddaam F-14s and M1 Abrams tanks.  ;D

The real story of course is that the guys named (that I know) could not find their azzes with both hands, and one of them ended up sent to jail for 5 years after being caught embezzling almost $1MM from my company (we fired him for that, plus for watching porno and snuff films in his office)  :o  , then was deported.

Coulda been worse though, he coulda brought up my name as a conspirator.   ;D

Now that I've read it, I half expect to read about this guy flying his airplane into some building too.  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/01/annoyed.gif

If you're in the armed forces and you decide you're not going to obey the commands of your superiors because they're "unconstitutional," you could be wrong, you could be right, but either way, you're in the brig pending court martial.  That takes a set of brass balls.  Now, if you're an Oathkeeper and you ain't got a pair, then we'll separate the men from the boys!

Glenn Beck has been actively recruiting for them on his entertainment program.

It's not hard to find people whose lives haven't turned out great and are looking to lash out at the world.  Liberals tend to become goths, conservatives tend to join militia style groups.  The main difference is that the liberals tend to grow out of it by their 30s.

Yeah, and when we were 18, the militia guys could kick our asses, and when we're 40 and we're not goth guys anymore, the militia guys are even crazier, and they can STILL kick our asses!

That why the Oathkeepers scare me, can start a revolution at any give moment, and cause more harm than the tea baggers, and that's why Glenn Beck loves them.

Don't worry yourself over those horse's ass Oat-eaters.  Starting a revolution is one thing.  Finishing it is another!

Allow me to invoke Godwin's Law here.

I just finished reading a book on the rise to power of the Nazis in Germany.  The Nazis came to power at a time when the economy was in the dumps with no recovery in sight, government was viewed incompetent and weak, and people were scapegoating various people for the problems of the country.  The moderates disappeared as more people turned to either the extreme left or the extreme right.  The extreme right in particular used patriotism, nostalgia for a "better past" (one that arguably never existed), anger with government incompetence, and a desire for a "strong leader" like Bismarck who, like Reagan, gained mythical status among the right-wingers as a seemingly perfect leader.  The right-wing in the US aren't Nazis, but if these extremists keep popping up and getting more widespread, then the parallels begin to match up in a very scary way.

Personally, I would like to think that our current situation is more similar to Japan's Lost Decade of the 1990s than to the Weimar Republic, as that era shares more parallels with our own situation than any other.  Japan got a nice ten year long recession caused by a real estate boom and bust, loose credit, reckless lending by banks, toxic loans, etc. (sound familiar to anyone?).  However, Japan didn't have an extreme right wing movement gaining steam throughout the 1990s.

^ Here's my solution:

1. Find bed.
2. Hid underneath it.

My opinion on those guys was if they got what they wanted, they wouldn't know what to do with it.  But I don't say that much 'cos a guy called something like Armand Tremblay might knock my teeth out!

But the German parallel doesn't fit because we really don't have a left wing extreme of any notice, ie a revolutionary left.  Even our "left wing" liberals would be considered moderate in most other countries.

Maybe armed to the teeth, but without tanks aircraft, and heavy artillery.  The days when an armed citizenry could be a match for a national military are long gone.
