There's a long way to go between his mild critique and ratting Bush out.

Sounds like a pretty mild critique, nothing like a "tell all expose".
When I saw the headline, I sorta figured that Cheney's beef would be that he thought Bush was a softie, which is one of the themes that Cheney brings up.
All that said, Bush was the president, and so it is he who gets to decide what advice the VP gives that he will or will not use. In that light, some of Cheney's comments appear to me to be a bit impertinent.

I think Cheney is throwing a temper tantrum because Bush wouldn't pardon Scooter Libby.

Cheney is a self serving, smarmy, eel, but I am almost surprised at this. Almost, but not quite. I would have thought it much more politically expedient to keep his mouth shut for at least 5 years or so.

Hey, cut President Cheney some slack. The Vice Presidency's supposed to be a largely ceremonial position, and VP Bush II was out of line in standing up to the Prez on matters of actual import.
