Subject: Ben Roethlisberger Situation
Written By: LyricBoy on 07/21/09 at 5:36 pm
Seems that a young lass from Las Vegas has filed a CIVIL sexual assault lawsuit against Picksburgh Stillers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. She never filed any criminal complaint or charges one year ago, when the alleged event happened.

Will be interesting to see how the media handles this case, as compared to the Kobe Bryant case. Although in the Kobe case, criminal complaint was immediately lodged and there was no one-year delay.
Maybe we will finally find out why he is called "Big Ben"... ;D

$380 grand in medical bills? Sounds pretty serious. However, the whole thing about her going up to Ben's room to fix his TV sounds a little suspicious. It sounds like the start of a seventies porn movie...

Having known women who were sexually accosted I say this should be a cautionary tale to any female. Always file an official complaint and get a rape kit first thing.

I see no reason why she should not have filed criminal charges, if not back then, then now. Very fishy. :-\\
On the other hand, I watched Big Ben's press conference yesterday. He shows up wearing a suit jacket over a rumpled shirt, no tie, hair not combed, face not washed, and needing a good shave. He then said (in words eerily familiar to Bill C.) "I did not sexually assault Ms. So-and-so" and "I will not be discussing my private life."
My interpretation of these remarks is that in fact he had done the horizontal mambo with the accuser, and that when he is on the road he parties like there is no tomorrow.
In the end, it will all come out during the discovery phase. I hope that his handlers understand that coverups only make things worse, and use that to guide their approach to this situation.

If this woman really was sexually assaulted, I sure don't want to make light of it.
However, it rings of the Kobe Bryant case.
I agree with Danoota, it is vital to report it to the police and get a rape get done immediately. Unfortunately, with acquaintance rape especially, the victim is often conflicted. She may assign blame to herself or try to tell herself it wasn't really rape, or even be reluctant to get the rapist in trouble if he's an intimate partner, friend, or colleague. (Sometimes men do get raped, and the sense of humiliation can be even more profound.)
I knew a woman who was date raped in college and did not report it for over a week. I urged her to report it, but by that time, physical evidence was unobtainable and the creep who did it get off scot-free.
