Subject: Canadian American Day, in Connecticut?

Written By: JamieMcBain on 04/26/09 at 9:16 am

Apparently, a bill declaring  June 24th, Canadian American Day, has been approved by the Senate, there. All that needs to happen, is for the bill to voted on.

I don't get that one at all.  I mean, I don't know why they would single out Canada for a special day, unless it was put forth by the casinos as a way of attracting Canadian dollars.

Interesting, because Quebec's national holiday(St-Jean de Baptiste) is June 24th.

More Quebecers celebrate this holiday than Canada Day on July 1. June 24th Is a holiday celebrating French Culture (and some say those who celebrate June 24th are those who want the province of Quebec to separate from Canada)

So a bill declaring June 24th, "Canadian American Day" is an interesting date to chose for those living in Quebec (where I was born, but no longer live there)

Interesting.  Maybe some transplanted Quebecois in Connecticut came up with the idea.

June 24th is also Franco-American day in CT.  Perhaps that's why they chose the same date?

Now that would not surprise me.

I celebrate St. Johnnys day. I fly my Fleur de Lys next to my Canadian flag for the week celebrating the two holidays. The separatist movement is pretty much dying in Quebec right now. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone under the age of 40 that truly recognizes themselves as being a separatist.

I like this story. Us canadians are yet another step towards taking over your country. First it's canadian-american day. Next it's socialized medicine and maple syrup on ham.

I like maple syrup.

I do not like it being called "free" healthcare when you get taxed up the yin-yang up north, but at least the taxes are going to something constructive like universal healthcare.

Taxes aren't all that much higher in Canada than in most of the U.S. and are far lower than in Western Europe. Canada, in all things, seems to be the crossroads, the middle ground between America and Europe.

Don't get me wrong, taxes could be lower. But on the other hand, they could be a lot higher.
