Subject: The PeTA Brigade Strikes Again!

I can't even get angry at this one because it is so effin' stupid.
Idiot Animal Activists Want Pet Shop Boys To Change Name
They want the Pet Shop Boys to change their name to....oh gosh, I can't even type this with a straight face......the "Rescue Shelter Boys". I really really REALLY hope to hell this is a joke that was played on CNN. Given PeTA's track record though, I doubt it is fake.

The Pet Shop Boys responded to a name change with "It's a sin".

their response is sorta funny.
The musicians said they were "unable to agree" to the request "but nonetheless think (it) raises an issue worth thinking about."
sincere on one level, very kind and polite on another level, and yet on a third level there's something to it that smacks of a patronizing pat on the head and saying, "aw, PETA, isnt that cute. now run along."

I would have told PeTA to f*** off and then laughed in their faces while wearing a leather ensemble and eating a Big Mac.

I think that's going a little too far. Rescue Shelter Boys just doesn't have the same ring to it as the Pet Shop Boys and who are they to try and bully this band into changing their name?

Did they say "Please"?

You mean that there actually IS meat in a Big Mac?

I can't make up my mind. I either would have told PETA to change their name because of their stated position against companion animals...or I would have said we'll change our name to The Kitten-Hating Vivisectionists!
:D

I'm more worried about the "special sauce". 8-P
Everytime PITA does something profoundly retarded, I feel it necessary to apologize to the rest of the planet on the behalf of all sane Virginians.
Sorry, world.
Besides, the Pet Shop Boys don't have any good rhyming alternate band titles...
"Sweat Shop Boys" - cheap Chinese child labor
"Head Shop Boys" - pot or homosexuality is involved - someone will complain over that as well
"Chop Shop Boys" - obviously promotes gangs. Nyet.
"Bet Flop Boys" - anti-gambling folks will hate that name...
"Jet Plop Noise" - too reminiscent of 9/11.
"Wet Slop Joys" - good name for a porn shop, bad name for a band.

Karma + 1 for the rhymes!

i was talking with my clique about this the other day... i mean, it's funny how PeTA is so unpopular when their cause is saving cute animals from destruction. it's a total no-brainer! they should be the most popular and uncontroversial organization this side of the girl scouts. and yet they somehow manage to make al qaeda look good. it's messed up.

The 95% kill rate for adoptable pets that they were "caring" for doesn't help their cause, either. :P
