I just heard it on CNN-nothing concrete yet.
Edited to add, that CNN is now saying that Sen. Kennedy ALSO collapsed.

My brother called me, I turned on the news. I am actually surprised, but happy, that Kennedy made it this long, I didn't give him until the election, let alone the new year, the inauguration is just icing on the cake.

The are both close, long term members. Byrd was with Kennedy and the collapse and it upset him so much that he had to be carried out.

I'd imagine Byrd will be retiring soon. He's 91.
If I'm not mistaken, Kennedy's cancer is terminal, so he won't be around much longer.

Sen. Edward Kennedy is expected to stay overnight at a Washington hospital after suffering a seizure Tuesday afternoon during a luncheon for President Obama.
Nothing in the article on Byrd. If everything goes well, he'll be released tomorrow. Wife says it's part of the territory.

Yes, he was diagnosed and has been being treated since May. They are reporting that it was fatigue that brought on the seizure. He refuses to take it easy.

These guys are old. No two ways about it. I wouldn't recommend a lot of stress or excitement for either one, but that's what they got today! I mean stress as simply stress on the body. Kennedy's advisors will certainly take this as a suggestion for the Senator's upcoming schedule.

I think they both became too over excited at a Democratic Presidency. Who was it who almost fainted when Dems took a few seats in the Senate back in 2006. He almost fell right on Hillary.

Absolutely. Hell, we needed term limits back when Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms made it through a second term. Since we don't have them, some people just don't know when to retire.
