Subject: Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for President
Written By: Brian06 on 10/19/08 at 8:51 am
Great news, he's spot on in his assessment of McCain's current smear campaign.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/19/colin.powell/index.html
"Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat's "ability to inspire" and the "inclusive nature of his campaign."
"He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"Obama displayed a steadiness. Showed intellectual vigor. He has a definitive way of doing business that will do us well," Powell said.
Powell, a retired U.S. general and a Republican, was once seen as a possible presidential candidate himself.
Powell said he questioned Sen. John McCain's judgment in picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate because he doesn't think she is ready to be president.
He also said he was disappointed with some of McCain's campaign tactics, such as bringing up Obama's ties to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers."

Indeed, I noticed that too!
As a voice of reason, Powell has been treated none too well by the Bushies, so his endorsement of Obama comes as no surprise.

I always thought Powell was repug by convenience, and much to moderate for the neocons.

I used to have a lot of respect for Powell until he showed his yellow streak instead of standing up to the Bush Administration.

I know what you mean - my guess is he swallowed the "this is what's best for your country" argument, and came to regret it.

Whoah!!! Let's not take that leap!
I remember November 2000 watching Gore get the election stolen right out from under him. That was the first of many things this decade I never thought I'd see my country!

Even Powell knows a train wreck when he sees it. My opinion of Powell has just gone up a few notches. :)

Tell it like it is, bro. I will not believe it until McCain says uncle. I still believe that the race is much closer than they say, and that election day snafus are being prepared. I also worry for Obamas life.

My same fears exactly. I watch the polls and they talk about Obama's lead, but I can't help but have that feeling in the back of my mind that McCain will miraculously win. Assassination fears are rampant as well. No matter how well protected Obama and his fam are (you should see the Secret Service and police surrounding the perimeter around his house), I worry like hell that some dipsh*t is going to do something. :-\\

Me neither! Greg Palast and RFK, JR. are speculating that the election is already stolen in spite of projected electoral votes for Obama of 277 (?) to McCain's 170. The glimmer of optimism I have is in McCain's apparent frustration. When they asked Dubya in the summer of '04, "What are you going to do if you lose?" He smugly replied, "I'm not gunna lose!" At that moment I got icicles shooting up my spine and my intestines roiled! I knew the fix was in. It was dreadful.
McCain might not be a "made man" like Bush was. Those thugs don't have much respect for McCain anyway. Note how quickly the other GOP candidates conceded. They knew the spaghetti was hitting the fan, they just thought it would happen next winter, not in September. They can let Obama in there and unleash a hate campaign against him that will make what they did to Clinton look like a Quaker meeting! Blame him for everything!
I agree with you and Jessica about Obama's security. The shock won't hit the racists until it actually happens and every bubba redneck is saying on November 5th, "He fuggin' won?"
The other day a bunch of hayseeds were screaming "Socialist! Socialist!" at Obama. He just smiled and waved. "Socialist" doesn't sound so terribly bad nowadays, now does it?

Yes he could have stood up to the Bush Administration, but a lot of people could have. Who knows what would have happened if Powell wouldn't have spoken about the existence of WMD's in Iraq. However, Powell is still more honorable than the majority of people in Washington.
One man to stand up to the Bushies? It should have been America. America failed there miserably.

In this case it was Daddybush who called the shots and put his babyboy in the White House. I don't think daddy has any interest whatsoever in helping anyone other than his own evil spawn.

I think Powell wanted to mercy-kill Iraq the first time we were in there, but that never happened. Now we have to pay the consequence which may be paid 100 years after I write this post. :-\\

That and he also wanted to play a few rounds of golf with Bill Clinton. G.W. probably asked for the presidency for Christmas. Dang kids are spoiled. >:(
