Subject: What am I?
Written By: A Perfect Stranger on 08/16/08 at 11:56 am
There used to be long test you could take on the internet to determine what exactly you should call yourself when determing your political standing.
When I was younger I used to be very conservative, but then opened up my mind and became very liberal. As my mind opened even further, I realized that a lot of liberal ideas themselves were very close minded and just labled themselves, "Open minded" for publicity and good public relations. Today, I beileve I would refer myself as a libertarian or perhaps a moderate. I'm not for sure.
Can any of you lead me to a direction on the internet where I could take a test to determine my political standing?
If so, I'd appreciate that. Thank you.

Interestingly I've had kind of the opposite thing happen with me. Even though I didn't know much about politics as a kid and a younger teen, I later discovered I was really liberal on the few issues I did have an opinion about.
I'd still call myself a liberal for the most part, but in a moderate way. I'm better about seeing the other side of issues probably starting when I was about 16 and even moreso in the last several months. I used to be more close-minded and ignorant about religion but I realize it was just because I didn't really know much about it. I actually agree with the Right on certain issues, like being harder on felonies, pro-law and order, or like how I'm strongly opposed to abortion.
I'm probably like 50 to 70% left wing or something, but you said something in your post I totally agree with (and I think defines my thinking). No matter what side you're on, I think open-mindedness is very important. There's some issues where I disagree personally with a certain stance on it, but I can still acknowledge good points in their argument.

The Political Compass is one of the best and most complete.
There are many others, though. You could also try this one: http://www.quiz2d.com/quiz/.
Or this one: http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html.
If you happen to resonate with Libertarianism, you might be interested in visiting www.libertarianism.com or maybe http://libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com
Happy journey.

Just slightly, and I do mean just slightly a "to the left Libertarian". I think if I would have answered one question differently, I would have ended up dead in the middle of libertarian.

Surprise, surprise. This quiz said that I was Social Liberal

You want government out of people's personal lives, but you appear to desire some continued government control over people's economic activities. There is no political party that represents your views. The Green Party does run many candidates with similar views, but the overall Green Party platform is much more socialistic than you are. You would need a mix of Democratic, Green, and Libertarian politicians in office to get the balance of freedom and social justice you desire. The ratio between these depends on how high up your dot is on the chart.
They don't even mention the Progressive Party which is probably more in line to my political beliefs.
Or this one: http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html.
The chart on this one looks at like the chart on the previous one. Someone may think that I was a liberal. :o :o :o ;) :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well, here is mine.
Nevertheless, some of my ideas will produce horror among many people, whether Republican, Liberal or Libertarian. 8)

"You desire substantially less government control of personal activity and somewhat less government control over economic activity than is presently the case in the U.S. I used to classify this area as part of “Moderate Libertarian;” but got many objections; I guess calling you a moderate libertarian is akin to calling a liberal Democrat a &ldqup;moderate communist.;”
Your views would be best represented by a mix of Libertarian and Democratic representatives—assuming that it was possible to get a significant number of Libertarians elected. The Libertarian Party is still dominated by people far more radical than you though there is an ongoing effort to make the LP more inclusive and less radical. If you have the patience and willingness do deal with infighting, you may want to join this effort. Or, you might find my proposed new party more to your liking.
Approximately 14% of the takers of this quiz scored in this area."

I usually don't jump in on this, but what heck:
Your views call for roughly same amount of goverment and liberty that we have today, with a bit more personal liberty and more government involvement in the economy.
It appears that you are relatively happy with the status quo, though you probably want a few more Democrats in office. Approximately 9% of the takers of this quiz scored in this area, 36% for all within the centrist circle.
I don't know how accurate that is for me. I do fall in the liberal area abit.

And here was me thinking this thread was going to be something like:
My first is in "ale" but not in "beer"
My second in "weird" but not in "queer"
My third is in "Bush" but not in "Gore"
My fourth is in "Michael" (and also in "Moore")
My fifth is in "arsehole" but not in "s**t"
My sixth is in "Hillary" but not in "hit"
My last is in "conflict" but not in "fight"
My whole is an insult, when used by the right

I'm smack-dabbed in the middle.
So I may never agree that Bush is the worst president ever, but I can never put Bush up on a pedastal.
