Subject: Human Rights for...apes?

Written By: MrCleveland on 06/29/08 at 2:11 pm

In Spain, Primates have human rights.

All I have to say is...what the fudge is all this?

Animal Rights, yes. But Human Rights, that's just stupid!

What, you mean we shouldn't give our distant relations the same rights we do?

Why am I imagining Bonzo and Ronald Reagan being on the same level? :-\\

If this legislation extends to bovines (specifically of the 'bull' variety), then I think there may be a problem...

True, but Spaniards don't really go for 'ape-fighting'...

Karma for Hitchikers Guide," Rest in Peace Douglas Adams.

I say you either treat primates humanely or you beat the primate on his own terms, only then do you earn the right to treat 'em like crap!

I used to visit and sit and talk with a gorilla (i know, it sounds rediculous) at the Inuyama Primate research Center.  He was always sitting outside and was very gentle and attentive.  He seemed to really like having someone talk at him and I recall how much I cried when I had to leave that town and walked up to say goodbye to him.

as far as human rights goes...they are thrown out the window when dealing with humans in some p0arts of the world.
..if they are assigned to primates, what's the harm?  as far as such rights go- they are applied randomly, not taken to heart. what's the harm?

It's only lazy journalism that talks about "human rights" for apes - though having just done a google search, it seems that the overwhelming majority of journalists are lazy.

They're not "human rights" - if you want to call them anything like that, they'll be "Ape rights" (presumably the things that hold the Duke of Edinburgh's crossbar up).  I'm trying to work out if the inevitable corollary is that it becomes illegal to keep the apes in zoos in Spain.. but then, we treat many humans far worse

I was hoping that the Spanish football team had someone of reasonably simian appearance, so I could make a joke about wanting to support him in his moment of triumph, but they're all really rather normal-looking.

Maybe they can get those endangered mountain gorillas of the Congo to migrate to Spain before they all get picked off by poachers!

How about "humanoid rights"?

If primates have the same rights as humans do in Spain then the term would not be migration.  It would be immigration.  I hope Cheetah has all of his paperwork up to date.

Humanoid rights, the advocates of Creationism are cringing as we speak.

What's so bad about that?  Give 'em 3/5 of a vote and it's all good.

/going to hell for that.

You know, sorra like the solution proposed for Michigan and Florida delegates at the Democratic convention.

//first-class ticket.

Well for what it's worth, that'll never happen in Italy.

The organ grinders just wouldn't allow it.

Jeffrey Dahmer's favorite kinda sandwich was an organ grinder!

Seriously - before she finally threw in the towel, that was basically one of Hillary's suggestions.  Seat the MI and FL delegates, but give them half a vote each.  You couldn't make that kind of stuff up.

Yes, but would they lean more democrat or Republican.  Don't want to shift the balance of power the wrong way.

The most intelligent primate to be studied was Coco.  I think she has the intellect of the average 5 year old.  Most likely she'll vote Republican.

Why do you keep testicles in your refigerator? "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't..."

Why did you do it?  "A sandwich is a sandwich but a manwich is a meal..."

How did he get caught?  Somebody found Head & Shoulders in his shower...

I love the Head & Shoulders one!
;D

I forgot where I heard the "just eat the vegetables" line, but it's my favorite Dahmer joke.
