Subject: Does voting for someone make you stupid?

Or doesn't he know what he's in for?

I vote because the other candidate is potentially worse.

Only when I'm forced to do the "lesser of two evils" bit.

No. Ill-informed and ill-advised, perhaps, but certainly not stupid. Now if you keep voting against your own interests you just might be stupid. The so-called Reagan Democrats were not stupid in 1980, but a working class person who votes Republican in 2008 has learned nothing in 25 years!

It depends ;)
But not voting at all is stupider.

I just hope Obama isn't a Greedy Democrat.

He's no saint, I guarantee you that much. I hear people working him up to be at once Apollo and Socrates and they're just setting themselves up for disappointment. There are things people still refuse to believe about JFK. Fact is, if you want to succeed in politics, you have to do certain things, things we find less than admirable. It's going to come out that Obama did this and Obama did that and you just have to shrug and say, "So what? He's a politician."

Every politician knows that part of the job is a dirty deal or two. If they're not aware of this or refuse to believe it they would never get elected. You need funds in order to run a campaign. Where do you get the funds? Political donations and lobbyist. There is no such thing as a free lunch. There are limits and very flimsy ethics when you get into that though. Go beyond that you end up with a K-street scenario. Most other things are pretty much under the radar.

Who said you had to vote for the lesser of two evils? Cthulhu/Hast(ya almost caught me, but nope, I'm not gonna name He Who Shall Not Be Named until after the inauguration)ur '08!
To the original poster: Voting for someone doesn't make you stupid. Believing your candidate will represent your interests (for less than $100K in funds you've raised on your candidate's behalf) makes you stupid.

W.C. Fields said it best:
"I never vote for anyone. I always vote against." ;)

I've felt deceived after an election but never stupid when voting.
But unfortunatley deception is part of the process.

I know people who vote like that. It seems to back them feel better about the political system.

But that was before modern water purification. Oops sorry for the progressive interruption.
