Subject: Royal Mail workers begin strike in the UK

Written By: Philip Eno on 06/29/07 at 1:09 am

Royal Mail workers are staging a strike which is set to hit postal services across the UK, in the first industrial action at the firm for a decade.

As many as 130,000 Communication Workers Union (CWU) members began the 24-hour walkout from 0300 BST.

Talks to avert the strike failed on Wednesday when workers rejected a 2.5% pay offer, and said they were worried modernisation plans would see jobs cut.

Royal Mail says it must change to compete better with rival mail firms.

Anyone, anywhere in the UK, not mail today and there will be further disruption over the next fews days.

As long as the bills do not arrive.

No bills arriving .. won't that cause lots of grief?  People won't be able to pay thir bills on time, which means phone companies, cable companies, power companies would have to make certain arrangements, otherwise they'd be cutting off almost everyone?

It seems most people do have their bills paid by Direct Debit, but for those who do not, will not be a good thing.
