Former top aide to VP Dick Cheney, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Jr. was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000 for lying to obstruct an investigation.  Federal district court Judge Reggie Walton found Libby guilty on four felony counts stemming from evidence that Libby lied to FBI agents and a grand jury investigation the disclosure--for political tactic--of CIA agent Valeri Plame-Wilson's identity. 

The press is now debating whether or not President Bush will pardon Scooter. 

The initial buzz says he won't.  Some commentators say he will.

Even if the Administration wants to send up Scooter as a sacrificial lamb, I can't imagine Libby serving the entire 2 1/2 years.  I'll bet you a nickle Paris Hilton serves more time!

You watch to much MSNBC.  Bigshots like Libby don't go to "Lock-Up."  They go to those country club correctional facilities.  You know, if a golf ball goes over white line you can't go after it!

Now, if they put Libby in the cell with Bubba, Smiley, and the Salad-Toss Man, AND made a DVD of the results, they might have a disincentive!  They could show it at orientations, "Here is what happens to you if you f**k around with Uncle Sam!"  Hey, maybe Randy "Duke" Cunningham would have just said no, and maybe William Jefferson would have kept ice cream and frozen veg in his freezer like everybody else!

There is a Republican martyr mentality, which you will see more of as the party's power wanes, but that wasn't the case with DeLay.  That's why I quoted "The Untouchables."  It's the kind arrogance that comes with years of entrenched corruption.  DeLay is grinning to show us he does not have to worry about the justice system, like the way the Frank Nitti character knew Capone had the city paid off and the juries rigged.  Unfortunately, there was no Elliott Ness to push Tom Delay off the roof (figuratively speaking, of course!).
