Subject: Dutch shock over gay Aids rape gang

Written By: Henk on 05/31/07 at 3:46 pm

A gay gang that allegedly raped victims lured on the Internet, drugged them and infected them with the AIDS virus has shocked the Netherlands and raised questions over its liberal sex culture.

This certainly is one of the most shocking stories I've ever read... Here's the full article.

Just how sick can people be?

People have been accusing gay people of purposefully spreading AIDS since the 80's.  I'm quite certain there will be a backlash against the gay community.  What they did was horrible.  There is no excuse for that.

I have nothing against gays but rape is rape-no matter the gender. I just don't understand how anyone can do something like that. To inflict a disease on someone intentionally-something those people will have to live with for the rest of their lives is just appalling. The 16 years seem like a light sentence if you ask me. And this is going to make it hard for the descent gays of the world. People will use this as an excuse for persecuting ALL gays.

Exactly.  I fear the backlash.  These were individuals, not the whole GBLT community.  It was downright cold-hearted though.

Wilfully infect somebody else with a deadly disease...that's murder, basically. I believe the maximum sentence for murder is 20 years of imprisonment in this country (although there are plans to increase the maximum sentence to 30 years). You don't get a "combined" sentence for multiple offenses - only the most grievous of your offenses will be brought to trial. So even if you kill a dozen people, you will only have to face 20 years of imprisonment. Sad but true. Life in prison should be more fitting IMHO.

That's right, you guys abolished the death penalty.  Life in prison would be justice.  I'm just wondering what would cause a group of people to act this way.

That's what I would like to know too.

Or maybe...not. I guess in some weird way it was all making perfect sense in their minds. :-\\

I know in the GLBT community there are some (not many) who have a phobia of heterosexuality.  This could explain it a bit.  But this is way too extreme.

I think "liberal sex culture" does create a lot of problems.  However, I don't see the connection.  What is the phrase you hear most often from people who promote "liberal" sexual morays?  "Consenting adults."  IF these allegations are true, there is nothing "liberal" about what this gang of sadists did.  If the American press starts to pump this story, it will place a lot of blame on Dutch culture.

Horror stories come out of Holland, particularly Amsterdam, from time to time about rape, prostitution, and sexual slavery.  Amsterdam does have the infamous red light district with prostitutes showing their wares in the windows.  However, less the hookers in the windows, there is nothing that happens in Amsterdam that does not happen in most metropolitan areas.  The AIDS rape gang could just as easily emerged in New York, L.A., Moscow, Jakarta, or Cape Town.   There are vile, rotten people in every city in the world.

That's horrifying!  I think the men should absolutely be charged with murder, and multiple counts.  They're clearly all deranged.  I expected their rational to be something like they were enraged that they were infected, so they wanted to spread the disease and make others suffer.  But to spread it so that they could have a wider selection of partners?  Totally insane.

A gay rights group called COC. Uh-huh-huh-huh!
:P

Looks like this one might very well be true.  I'm just skeptical because we've heard from the dawn of the AIDS epidemic horror stories from AIDS infectees licking produce to "Let's Get Infected" parties in which men deliberately have sex with men infected with AIDS.  It's a great source of urban legends.

I heard a similar story about heterosexual guy who got herpes. He then infected as many women as he could.  ::)  This is not a gay/straight thing here. This is about sickos, plain and simple. I don't care what their sexual ordination, religion, nationality, whatever is. They are despicable and poor excuses for human beings.

They are poor excuses for animals. A rabid dog gets put down, yet these a-holes don't get the death penalty, not even life in a cage - 16 years?

The system has failed...

I don't believe in the death penalty. I think life in a cage would be a more just punishment. Just like the life sentence they gave to their victims.

Let's not forget Harmonica's "guy with AIDS purposely infecting women" in Iowa City story that he just LOVED to tell (even when it wasn't really pertinent) as well as the bazillion reasons WHY he couldn't turn him in despite how much it disgusted him... ::)

Life in prison with a deadly disease.  I give them maybe 5 years at the most.  Basically any long-term sentence would be the equivelence fo "LWOP".

I also hope that the prisons there are better then they are here as reguards to gangs and violence.  Otherwise, there is no telling how many more they may infect while locked up.

And it is sad, but there is a destructive segment of people that have this desease.  Thankfully, they are a very tiny minority.  But once a year or so some story pops up of something similar.  I remember a few years ago in Europe there was a bunch of AIDS sufferers that were robbing banks, and their weapon was threatening to spit on people unless they gave over money.

Actually, they gave their victims a death sentence and I'm all for executing them.

What do you think is more of a horrible punishment, being put out of their misery (and ours) or being stuck in a cage and having to live with pain and maybe even fear for their safety? Personally, I think the latter.

I had a class in HS that discussed life in prison vs death penalty.  While I can't remember the exact numbers (which would be meaningless now anyway since it was a long time ago), I do remember that (at least at that time) it was cheaper to keep them alive in prison than to put them on death row (when you factor in how many years someone can be on death row--the cost of appeals, etc.)  It really stuck with me.

The latter is, but having to live in fear of being raped or stabbed is cruel and unusual punishment to me. So is living in 24 hour protective custody to be "safe".

IMO, it's more humane to execute those that have commited heinous crimes and have no hope of rehabilitation. Only the appeals process makes this cost about 3x as much as life w/o parole.

At the current time, there is no cure for HIV. That's bound to change. However, today, intentionally injecting another person with HIV positive blood during the course of a rape should be a capital case. So, I agree with you.

Criminals like this are always protected. There are usually seperate wings for Sex-Offenders and Child-Molesters. The term NONCE is used. A lot of folks think a nonce is a homosexual, not so - NONCE - Not Of Normal Criminal Element. These folks are almost always segregated and kept amongst themselves where there isn't anything like the level of animosity.

I agree in part - Prison is crap, but if they're infected with the AIDS virus, they're just as likely to die in a few years, just speed up the process and let them have a couple of years (because you know they'd be on death row for a while) living in fear of their upcoming death.

Of course, it's all hyperbole because Holland dosen't have the death penalty.

Wasn't he the one who told the European press, "I do not have AIDS, I have lymph cancer, and I want everyone to understand that!"  Nope.  He had AIDS.  Of course he had to keep working!  Absolutely!  He had major expenses, you see!  You try asking the staff at the AIDS clinic to go out and buy you some booger sugar!

Oh yeah, and Joe McCarthy's attorney, Roy Cohn, got AIDS in the '70s.  He prolly got it doing the horizontal mambo in the back of Studio 54.  Cohn was also lawyer for Steve Rubella, or WhateverTF his name was.  Anyway, Cohn kept saying he had "liver cancer" (or "liv-uh can-tsuh" in his New York accent).
