Subject: Help Establish National Spiritual Diversity Month!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to make you all aware of a project that Celia and I are
working on.
As most of you know, I am the documentary filmmaker who is producing
the film "A Hero Denied" which is the story of Sgt. Patrick Stewart–
the Wiccan soldier who was killed in Afghanistan—and the struggle to
get the pentacle approved by the VA as a religious symbol.
Celia is the singer / songwriter who wrote the "Symbol" song about
Sgt. Patrick Stewart and the Penatacle Quest.

We have started a project called 1,000 Symbols which is a program to
promote the celebration of spiritual diversity in this country, and
are working hard to get as many people to participate as possible.
Our primary goal this year is to have the month of June designated as
"National Spiritual Diversity Month." The US is one of the few
industrialized nations that does not have an officially recognized
national day/week/month for religious tolerance or spiritual
diversity. Well, we are trying to change that.
Here's the deal. About 30 artists, writers, and musicians from all
over the country have donated a piece of their work that in some way
promotes spiritual diversity.
All of these works can be downloaded for free from our website during
the month of June.
All that you have to do is go to our website and sign our petition to
declare the month of June "Spiritual Diversity Month" with your name
and email address. The list of supporters will be included with an
application for a national declaration and sent to the White House.
Once you add your name to the list of supporters, you will receive an
email thanking you for your support.
On June 1st, you will receive another email with a link to the
download page so you can download all of the free gifts of art,
music, and written word that our nation's artists have so graciously
donated to this cause.
You don't have to wait until June to sign up, you can do it today by
going to our website:

We would also appreciate it if you would forward this information to
your friends or anyone else who would like to support spiritual
diversity.

Cat, I signed the petition. I have no credit card or pay pal so I couldn't donate. As a Secular humanist I find this to be an extremely worthy cause. :)

I signed too. I think this is a terrific idea. I don't practice any religion at the moment (that could change someday). I read about that soldier and was livid that there even had to be a debate. No one seems to have a problem bastardizing pagan customs at trick or treat time, yet God forbid one is laid to rest underneath a symbol of

How about if we all help celebrate National Day of Prayer today, that's for all faiths & already a nationally rec. day - everyone can do it, even by themselves! :)

Tell that to the Christian radicals who harassed me while I was doing my weekly business downtown. To me the National Day of Prayer is like mischief night for those who are into Halloween. Oh, well glad that's over for a year.

Maybe it's just my liberal bias, but it seems scavenging mendicants are closer to Jesus' ideas than SUV-driving, McManansion-inhabiting, diamond wearing gated community dwellers!

I just wish they would respect a persons freedom to practice whatever religion they choose. Unfortunately we Secular Humanist are pretty much demonic to them. ::)

I don't think the Brethren are about respecting anybody's freedom to do anything. They are the Christian version of the Taliban, and we all know how liberal that lot is.

Well if Lterhune can get away with calling Mama K "hard-core rotten" in blatant breach of the rules, I'm going to argue that I shouldn't be banned for calling the Brethren the Christian Taliban.

True... I guess she hasn't been around for a few days cuz I thought for sure I would get an eyeful (oppossed to earfull) for some of my recent comments but what ever... I'm not scared. ;D

Secular Humanist... I like its sounds much more positive than Agnostic.... can I borrow it???

I signed it--no problem--but I thought I read that the issue had been resolved and they were getting their Wiccan symbols on their graves. I signed it because I still believe we should have diversity everywhere.
