I actually heard of this before,Guinea Bissau is a portuguese ex-colony.

I think it's cool, but it's unfortunate that modern day ways are interfering with a tradition. Again. I'm all for change and progress and such, but if they've been doing this for ages and haven't had issues, then why change it?

Weeelll, I've heard of "shotgun weddings," but I've never heard of one where a shotgun was actually used to seal the engagement. Can't say it never happened, but I think it's always been more a figure of speech than anything else.
