The guy VOLUNTEERED to take the test.  Unless he knows how to beat a polygraph, you generally don't take one if you know you're going to lie during it (unless there is no other choice).

To the puppet masters: Straussianism only works when the people you hire to manufacture your state-sponsored ideology/theology are themselves blameless.  Strauss' mistake was assuming that the most vehement (and manipulable :) theocrats of his day were either (a) not hypocrites, or (b) able to cover up for themselves.  A good assumpution in Strauss's day.  A crappy assumption in the age of the Intarweb.
