Subject: What You Need To Believe In Order To Be A Republican
Written By: ChuckyG on 04/25/06 at 11:15 am
we've seen the Democrat version of this before... not sure if the Republican one has been posted:
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN. resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco' s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity.)
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

Most of that is simply partaisan whining, and I refuse to participate. It is also so distorted and biased, it is nonsense.
For example, Cuba. That was enacted under Kennedy, a Democrat. And it was perfectly fine for Johnson, Carter, and Clinton. Why is the lifting only brought up as an attack when Republicans are in office? If that was such a critical issue, Clinton could have done it during his 8 year administration.
I am simply writing this off as a partaisan attack. And yes, I would react the same way (and have) when "Republicans" blast "Democrats". I simply have no use for devisive partaisan politics.
Why don't people in here ever post a list of the things the like about the other party? I know I can do that, and will be doing exactly that later today when I am not at work.

actually i think you'll find cuban intervention was largely a pet project of cia man john foster dulles under eisenhower; kennedy inherited dulles and also the cuban program. dulles stepped down after the bay of pigs.

it's true, though, what you say about the dems not making much hay out of the cuban policy. i rather suspect it came as a result of interests not necessarily affiliated with either party.

the standard excuse. not surprising

Then you weren't paying attention when Clinton tried to roll back the embargo laws on Cuba and the Republican controlled congress prevented the changes. Just because you don't remember, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
If that's the best you can do, no wonder you don't want to try and support any of the other "stances" the Republican party has made in the past six years.

Yes, I'm sure a search of your past posts would "totally" bear that out too.
Why don't people in here ever post a list of the things the like about the other party? I know I can do that, and will be doing exactly that later today when I am not at work.
I can't think of one thing I like about the Republicans. Not the current Republicans. I liked the "smaller government" and "fiscal responsbility" ideas they used to talk about. However, six years of control of all branches of the government has shown that is something they only talk about. Not something they actually care about.

Well, to be fair some of them have pretty good taste in ties. And I like how, despite the fact that they are so clearly drunk behind the switch, somehow they haven't sparked all-out nuclear war yet.
