Massachusetts state house votes 96-to-57 to deny illegal immigrants in-state college tuition
Massachusetts House members last night decisively defeated a controversial bill to extend in-state tuition rates at public colleges to undocumented immigrants, effectively killing the measure for this year.
The 96-to-57 tally surprised advocates of the bill, who believed they had enough votes to win approval in the House and at one point were predicting they may have enough support to override a certain veto from Governor Mitt Romney.
--Only a few states are crazy enough to allow this, but Texas voted for this a few years. Between Massachusetts and Texas, you figure this would go the other way around.

I think they did a good thing.
I have no problem with immigrants getting every right that a natural born citizen has. But by becomming a citizen, they have taken the responsibility of citizenship.
If you are an illegal, you are taking no responsibility. If you have no responsibility to this Country, then it has no responsibility towards you.

Honestly, I can see Texas doing this.....there has to be many more immigrants in Texas than Massachusetts....
In-state tuition for illegal aliens is usually considered a liberal position, but only a real far-left one. That's why it had to be snuck through in California. Texas probably does have many illegals, but I still just don't see how they could do something like that while in Massachusetts, with the most democrat-controlled legislature, could easily vote it down.
Look at the picture in that link the Boston Globe used. How biased is that?

They should let the illegals go to UMass for free! They'd work harder and get better grades than the in-state students, and all the rich kids from New Jersey they recruit. Thus the total undergrad grade point average qould rocket upward and this would be very good for the school! After all, the dodo vice-chancellor up here keeps saying he wants to make UMass a "State Ivy." The thing is, the legislature doesn't want to invest any money in actually improving the infrastructure of the state college system for the regular students. They're investing in an elite superstructure for all the rich kids with sterling HS grade point average!
Oh...don't get me started!
::)
BTW, you know what song they played at the British surrender at Yorktown?
"The World Turned Upside Down"
Just a little trivia.

I knew of the song, but not that it was played at the British surrender.
