Can you believe it? 2000 was 25 years ago already!!
January 1st 2000 - the world was ringing in the new year and finding out that the Y2k bug was a minor issue. (I.O.W., the most anti-climactic event in computer history as all computers managed to fully function, just as they should have been doing.)

January 16th 2000 - It was reported that Mick Jagger had lost the chance of a knighthood because of his errant ways, British Prime Minister Tony Blair having doubts about the message it would give about family values. This decision was changed and on 12 December 2003, Mick Jagger was made a Knight Bachelor by The Prince of Wales for services to music, as Sir Michael Jagger.

January 30th 2000 - Super Bowl XXXIV was played at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The National Football Conference (NFC) champion St. Louis Rams defeated the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Tennessee Titans 23–16 to claim their first Super Bowl win.
The Rams would eventually move back to Los Angeles and win Super Bowl LVU in 2022.

January 31st 2000 – Alaska Airlines Flight 261, experiencing problems with its horizontal stabilizer system, crashed in the Pacific Ocean off Anacapa Island, California, killing all 88 people on board. :\'( :\'(

February 4th 2000 – The World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium, Charter of Paris is signed by the President of France, Jacques Chirac and the Director General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura, initiating World Cancer Day which is now observed on February 4 every year.

February 14th 2000 – The spacecraft NEAR Shoemaker enters orbit around asteroid 433 Eros, the first spacecraft to orbit an asteroid.
