Subject: Why are the early 2000s always paired with the late 90s?
Written By: anemoiasorrow on 08/17/22 at 9:57 pm
I keep seeing people pairing the late 90s and the early 2000s. Not just in this forum, but I hear and read it all the time. I never really understood why. Sure, there are some cultural similarities, but they are paired to a much much greater extent than the late 80s early 90s, late 00s early 10s, etc. Why is this? Interested to hear your thoughts on this.

It's just harder to remember anything that sets them apart

Because they both have similar aesthetics, pop culture etc the early 00s was just the late 90s with better tech.

I think the late 00s and early 10s were quite similar as well, but you're right in that I don't really hear it outside of this forum!

Because late 1998-early 2002 is the same era with same aesthetic and pop culture aka Y2K era.
Only late 96-late 98 is the only core/pure late 90's period.
Only mid 2002-early 2004 is the only core early 00's period.
Whenever someone like me for example says "late 1990's/early 2000's" we're referring to that Y2K/late 1998- early 2002 period.
