Subject: Early 2000s were absolutely bizarre

Look at the Coca-Cola CGI panda ad about 2 minutes and 30 seconds into this video. I think it's crazy that this was aired on TV without anyone batting an eye. It's just so...uncanny, you know what I mean?

This Snapple commercial seems like something out of a Regular Show parody bit, but no, this was actually aired in real life.

The way the video cuts between the dancers in this futuristic room, mixed with the fire and the abstract shot of girl wearing headphones at 1:30 may not seem that weird, but if you stop the video and think about what you just watched, it's really quite vaporwave/abstract.

At 0:50 what's with those transitions?? Imagine seeing transitions like that on an awards show nowadays? How did no one think that was just straight up too strange? I mean, I love it, but the morphing is something else haha

If modern audiences heard the voiceover at 2:35 they might laugh/think it was tongue in cheek

Look at this full CGI animation just for an animation block?

The PS9 commercial, one of the most early 2000s things I've ever seen.

I know this was late 2000s but it has that distinctive early 2000s vibe.

Sadly stuff started getting much worse in the 90s :(

The popular Tumblr https://y2kaestheticinstitute.tumblr.com/ archives a lot of the sci-fi-esque turn of the century aesthetics.
I wish early 2000s cheesy TV effects had more recognition.

The Twin Towers crumbling, The July 2005 London Bombing and Michael Jackson death (that was late 2000's)

Looking back, it was kind of a weird time. I would imagine if 9/11 and the tech boom didn't happen, the entire decade would carry on that funky vibe. The entire 2000s decade would have more character. But since it didn't, the decade should really be defined by the early 2000s since it had the most culture and identity at that part. Weirdness creates character. Everything afterwards was really stale and stagnant. Probably due to technology.

I wouldn't say that part of the decade is it's identity since the early 00s was just the 90s leftovers. The 00s identity is marked by the shedding of 90s innocence and optimism which started with 9/11, continued with the Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina and concluded with the 2008 recession. It also reflected in media in the 2002-2008 time frame as everything got a hell of a lot darker, emo became a thing, punk rock was popular and games started shooting for dark realism visual styles.

No.. The '90s ended in 1998. There was no trace of the '90s after that. The early 2000s ARE the 2000s. It's the only part of the decade that defines the decade.

Everyone says 1996-2003 was one distinct era. And if early 2000s was the 2000s when would that make the mid 00s (2004-2008) the 10s????

Well whoever "everyone" is, is wrong... 1996 is NOTHING like 2003. A completely different world. The 2000s culturally began in 1998. The Y2K era was 2000s, not '90s. And you even had more change in 2001 which felt nothing like the '90s.
The early 2000s was in no way connected to the '90s, period.
They aren't 2010s but they aren't the classic 2000s like the early 2000s was which defined the era.

No, that's not accurate. The early 2000s were very "2000s" right from the impending "Y2K panic" of late 1999. Then, of course, 9/11 solidified things. The mid-2000s were like 2000's part B.
