Subject: 7th generation of video gaming: Closer to 6th gen or 8th gen?
Written By: muppethammer26 on 03/14/20 at 8:25 pm
The 7th generation era shares many concepts with the 6th gen (such as the 7th gen still having a lot of licensed games, the ESRB ratings still have a black border, micro-transactions weren't prevalent, etc.) , while introducing or popularizing some things that are still around in the 8th gen (such as HD gaming, DLC in some games, etc.) . Which one do you think the 7th generation of gaming is closer to?

8th Gen for sure. PS3 was more like the PS4 than the PS2. The Wii just had a "U" added it to it. I'm not too familiar with Xbox but I'm sure the 360 was closer to Xbox One than the original. The 7th gen had Wifi capacity hence supported digital download and streaming capabilities. 6th Gen besides playing the games on the disc could only play DVD's and CD's (and the Gamecube couldn't do that).

8th gen.
A trickier one would be 6th gen being closer to 5th gen or 7th gen. 6th gen wasn't in HD yet, colorful mascot platforms were still big, and online gaming wasn't as big a selling point as 7th gen, so you could argue it's closer to 5th gen. But OTOH, you could argue 6th gen is closer to 7th gen in terms of graphics, sound, etc. 5th gen games look very archaic and blocky with fuzzy sound mixing, whereas 6th gen games could easily fit in with today's games with a bit of upscaling.
