Subject: Songs that embody 2005
Written By: DisneysRetro on 10/09/19 at 3:24 am
2005 (especially the summer) was a really good/underrated year of the 2000’s in my opinion. Some of the biggest artists from the 90’s made a huge comeback such as Gwen Stefani and Mariah Carey. The Black eyed peas were big and everyone was jamming out to Rihanna..I’d love to hear or see some posts about anything culturally related to the year 2005.

One song to remember for 2005 was James Blunt's "You're Beautiful", made famous for the use of a naughty word in the lyrics on the album. The radio stations played another version of it, but still accidentally play the album version, and when promoting the album in high street record shops, care had to be taken to skip the track on the album so no offence was caused.

Hollaback Girl, by Gwen Stefani, was the "bad girl" anthem of 2005. Whenever somebody played it at my junior high, it was guaranteed to get all the girls in the vicinity lit. :D

I love 2005 because the Go Go sound was popular in R&B.

This iconic gem 8)
Like with SNL or Star Wars, everybody has their favorite era for the band Green Day. Mine so happen to have been the American Idiot era for the band. This song being so emblematic of that, and that era in recent history (the Iraq War notwithstanding).

Aww this era brings back a lot of memories for me. I was in third grade when this song came out. My favorite era of theirs was either shenanigans or American idiot.. I miss this type of music. Thanks for posting :)

r&b was pretty good that year looking back on it. My favorite r&b song was “Shake it Off” by Mariah Carey and “Be without you” by Mary J blige. Oh yeah and We belong together was another classic of mine that year.

The music landscape was so different in 2005. You had a lot more variety to choose from.
- The year marked the comebacks of heavyweights like Mariah Carey and Green Day
- We saw the debuts of T-Pain, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Pretty Ricky, and Carrie Underwood. The Pussycat Dolls released their first album that year as well.
- Hip hop sounded much more poppy/dancy/radio-friendly than it does today. It dominated the charts back then whereas today hip hop has largely fallen out of the mainstream.
- Emo/rock bands like Fallout Boy and The All-American Rejects were hot
- 50 Cent, Kanye West, Chris Brown, and T-Pain were probably the biggest names in hip hop from 2005-2007
- A great year for movies: The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Batman Begins, Charlie and the Charlie Factory, and so many more
Other notable names/events/trends of 2005:
- Hurricane Katrina
- Michael Jackson trial
- Terry Schiavo
- The runaway bride
- Lindsey Lohan
- Paris Hilton
- Black Eyed Peas
- MySpace
- Shakira
- Ciara
- Akon
- Gwen Stefani
- Flip phones/ringtones
- Jessica Simpson
- Ashlee Simpson
- YouTube launched
- Kanye blasting George W. Bush on TV
- Pope's death
- London bombing
- Jose Canseco and the steroids scandal in baseball

I didn't care about that song too much, even though it brings back memories. The other songs on that album were better. Anyhow here's my list:
50 Cent - Candy Shop
Omarian - Touch
Pretty Ricky - Grind With Me
R Kelly - Trapped in the Closet (lol)
Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
Black Eyed Peas - My Humps
Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
Kanye West - Golddigger
