Subject: 2008 Appreciation Thread.
Written By: ofkx on 08/12/18 at 2:22 pm
I feel like 2008 doesn't get enough love on here so I thought I should start a thread for it :). 2008 is one of my favorite years of the 2000s. It's the year I started elementary school. I absolutely love everything about it and I especially love the music.
Here's a few a couple of my favorite hits from 2008:
Songs:

2008 was easily my favorite year of my childhood. I remember seeing Batman the Dark Knight for the first time and how it absolutely blew my mind. Then in December there was a HUGE blizzard in my area and I got an extended winter break along with a white Christmas (which is rare here). That was also the Christmas where I got my Wii (which as most know was incredibly popular at the time).

2008 is definitely one of the more hated 2000's years but IMO the pop culture from then really wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. There were good songs like "American Boy", "When I Grow Up", "Pocketful Of Sunshine", "Miss Independent", "Touch My Body", "Sexual Eruption", "Just Dance" etc. I could go on and on.

And the annoying part is that 9/11, 2008, and 2009 are treated as if they are the only parts of the 2000's that existed.

2008 was a great year. Can't believe its been 10 years as it's kind of a unique year to me that I always compare to the present to see how far I've come. The Pixar animated movie Wall-E in particular always makes me nostalgic for this year and was a standout movie from my childhood. My personal life saw great change as went from Primary to Secondary school and I changed my best friend within the space of a year! the only other year that was even close to the amount of change I saw in this year was 2014 but that's another story! Anyway, I miss it a lot actually.

I didn't appreciate the year overall at the time, but it was a killer for movies. Just knocking it out of the park with practically every release that summer:
Wall-E
Speed Racer
Prince Caspian
Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay
The Dark Knight
Iron Man
Just a killer line-up of releases.

Easily one of the greatest Hip Hop songs of the 2000s? M.I.A. is such a creative mainstream oddball that gave even Kanye West himself some mad competition.
Speaking of Kanye West, his "808s & Heartbreak" came out in 2008 and turned out to be one of biggest game changers in the Rap genre of the last 10 years.

I like some things from 2008 even though I'm a 2007 guy overall. I was bitterly disappointed upon finding out that the game Spore came out that year instead of '07, for instance. Previously, some of the things from 2008 blurred in my memory with stuff from '07 because I was 8 and then 9 in 2008.
That being said about my bitter disappointment, I'm still occasionally going to play the game again once I can get a computer that doesn't automatically 'update' since art censorship is what stunted me from moving past '07 to begin with.

Wow Spore... Dang, that's one game I haven't heard about in a while ;D. I remember lots of hype around the game when it came out but haven't heard any mention of it since what? The early 2010s? And I think the cause would be that it came out as a disappointement upon arrival since it didn't delivered on the worlds costumization it had promised and was quickly overshadowed by the release of Minecraft a few years later.

Spore had a lot of promise, but never lived up to the expectations. A real shame really.
EA probably want to focus more of their time on their primary cash cow - The Sims.

Video games of 2005
God of War
Devil May Cry 3
Smackdown Vs Raw 2006
PSP launch
Xbox 360 launch
Tekken 5
Pokémon Emerald
WWE Day of Reckoning 2
SOCOM 3
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Kameo
True Crime
Perfect Dark zero
Call of Duty 2
The launch of the 360 alone is more memorable than any game that came out in 2008 maybe beyond gta 4

Someones angry. ::) The original God of War didn't even come out on the 360 so I don't know why you're mentioning it. Perhaps it wasn't clear that I was only talking about the last part of your post. And also, Call of Duty 2 didn't "change gaming", at best it was a refinement for the fps genre.

not angry just making a point, Original god of war came out on ps2 and made a huge impact.

Call of Duty 2
When the Xbox 360 first launched in 2005, people thought that the only notable first-person shooter they would be looking forward to was Perfect Dark Zero. However, Activision changed all that when they showed first footage from Call of Duty 2, under the guidance of Infinity Ward. The game captured startling realistic military action, unlike anything gamers had seen on the PS2 or Xbox, and included terrific gameplay to boot. It also introduced a number of multiplayer modes that would become the backbone for the Call of Duty experience we're familiar with today, including modes like Deathmatch, Search & Destroy and Capture the Flag, among others.
Just like Mario 3 was a "refinement" that influenced all the other platform games that came after it
2005 along for Xbox 360 put its up there with the great years in gaming. Or maybe you were 2 young to remember

I feel compelled to post this because one day I got the idea, which I consider hilarious, to recreate Benjamin Linus from LOST onto Saints Row 2, and I couldn't find any YouTube videos about this.
Mouth width: 22, all other mouth measures are 50.
The nose... I don't know if, after trying to do this for 30+ minutes, Ben Linus's nose can be perfectly replicated due to both his nose's unusually wide bridge and the bridge's strange placement.
Through the show, I sometimes saw his hair as pitch black, other times shades of brown, so this is kind of up to whatever you want to do with his hair color. I set the primary color to Dark brown, secondary to black. I think the hair is called 'Spiked w/ Dyed Tips', and regarding Facial Hair, it's either none or 5 o'Clock shadow (gray)
I have images, but I'm limited to posting a certain number...

Regarding character customization, I found something called MakeHuman, which has been around since 2000. It's a little more difficult to use than Saints Row 2, but it's better optimized.

I may try this one day. I thought of Saints Row 2 in particular for replicating Ben because both him and the Boss from Saints Row 2 are murderous individuals (at least when talking about Main Ben rather than Alternate Ben).
I don't currently have the ability to put more data on my computer, otherwise I might get MakeHuman soon. Or APB, seeing as that's the only other game I know of that is both in the crime genre of videogames and rivals SR2's character customization.
It really fit when the Boss, having the appearance of Ben, said, "It shows that you're dumb enough to get yourself stabbed..." in the very first cutscene where Boss's appearance is shown.
