Subject: Microsoft Office 2007 appreciation thread
Written By: christopher on 08/03/18 at 3:22 pm
It was a very important version, it introduced the Ribbon interface. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. It also implemented the new office formats, e.g. .docx instead of .doc for Word documents which makes file sizes smaller. I still use it and while I think Office 2010 was a polishing of 2007, 2013 and 2016 never grew on me, they look too flat. :) For me 2007 is still the best version, with 2010 a close second although I like 2007 the most. What about you?

Yeay yeay my first used office pack. I couldn't stand working with any version lower than that afterwards, I liked the new stuff and interface too much ;D. I had to make a lot of powerpoints in my last year of elementary school so it was fun to use it. I still have my very first powerpoint from 2009 on my usb stick, I always made sure to keep everything I made throughout my school carrier for some reason :D.

Best one so far, I remember use it for first time and I loved the graphics and the user experience in comparison with the previous versions

Appreciation?? I hated it! I missed Office 2003. >:(
I despised the ribbon layout. It was too oversimplified and ironically made navigation more difficult (like using those bank ATMs with two buttons). In Office 2003, you knew where to look. There were many options under each menu button, but I'd rather have 5 menu options with 20 buttons underneath, than 5 menu options with 5 more menu options underneath and another 5 menu options underneath that and another 5 after that etc. Completely unintuitive.
And it also introduced the dreaded '.docx', '.pptx' etc. file format I HATE proprietary file formats and so do you! Completely backwards incompatible with Office 1997/2003 and most other document reading software, even to this day.
Huge step backwards in my opinion.
I used Office 1997/2003 for most my school career, until my final year of school (2009) when my school upgrade to Office 2007. Thankfully I made it out just in time. By 2009-2011 I had largely switched to Google Docs/Evernote/Dropbox because having my files in the cloud was too convenient. At my job in 2010 we were still using Office 2003, bless. :P
inb4 "Office 2003? bah! Office 97 was even better!!!" ;D

Those formats were actually more open than .doc, .ppt, .xls. My only gripe with Office 2007 was that, like with Vista, it was bloated. Otherwise I don't care so much since I use Google Docs/Sheets/Slides more often whenever I need office software, which is not much.

Besides, you can still save/open/edit the old formats ;)

I dislike the full-screen file menu the 2010+ versions have. 8-P

Microsoft Office 2003 is still better to me. It's design makes it more fascinating and it also has the old Microsoft Agents (Clippy, Links, etc.). Office 2007 got rid of them.

I still have Office 2010 and it's like 8 years old, that's how good it works for me. Not saying Office 2013 and 2016 is terrible it's just the design and simplicity of Office 2010 is so functional and it just works, never felt a need to upgrade. As for Office 2007, it's just really dated at this point.

I've been using Office 2013 since I got this laptop in 2014 (which started off as Windows 8 and now Windows 10)
