I will go as in depth as I can in this thread to recreate what 2009 really felt like. Some of it may seem different than how you remember it.

There were still things I enjoyed from that year though. I liked that fashion was more relaxed and casual. I also liked how social media had less presence and the style of phones we got to choose from.

Most definitely, reality television at this point was becoming obnoxious and oversaturated. I also stopped listening to the radio in 2009. I had really never been so annoyed with most mainstream music than I was in 2009 and the early 2010s. One of my most favorite years of the 2000s :D. Music was especially good in 2009.

It was a month before that Michael Jackson had passed away, he had said that in March Of 2009 that The "This Is It" tour would've been in July Of 2009, that month would've been his final sendoff tour.  :\'(

That's actually a great way to put it.  2009 was the year the '00s pretty much died (though their influence could be felt through about 2012).  '10s culture was beginning to emerge that year but was still in its infancy.  I typically think of 2009 as identifying more with the '10s as opposed to 2008 which has more of an '00s feel in my opinion.

2009 was the worst year of the recession and that impacted the zeitgeist quite significantly.  In my personal life it was both one of the best and worst years of my life.  I had the only boyfriends I have ever had that year.  In September 2009 I moved to North Carolina, found employment quite easily, and so began my glory days.

Maybe it's because I live in a small Southern town where being fashionable is almost unheard of so I'm not around the latest styles that much, but I don't think it looks that bad.  Definitely not as dated as say 2006 or 2007.  Fashion changed a lot during the final years of the '00s.

Really? I think they look exactly like 2006. It's about the same difference as 2018 and 2016 (no difference).

Yeah once again, when you live in a small town, fashion is something you are more out of touch with probably than anything else and a lot of that has to do with the fact a lot of the popular stores aren't here.  You have to drive 3 hours to Dallas to shop at something like American Apparel or Urban Outfitters.  The radio here is quite behind on hits but that isn't as big of an issue anymore with the Internet and Spotify.

It's definitely extremely dated. Nobody at my high school dresses like the people in the photos.

and a very washed out version of the 2000s stripped of everything.
