Subject: Fads After Pokemon

Written By: naf140230 on 04/28/18 at 11:00 am

I saw this old forum: http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=46291.0

I was wondering. Were there any fads that came after Pokemon?

Yu-Gi-Oh was a huge one too. There's also Bayblade, Bakugan and so on. So many gaudy toys-loving franchises from Japan ;D

Yu-Gi-Oh defined it until the end of its peak by 2005 with GX. Bratz dolls is pretty accurate. It was advertised so much, I knew they were big and a lot of popular fads then I didn't notice were popular.

The one immediatley after Pokemon was Digimon, then the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z series. After that was the Beyblade craze (my kids all had their Beys and they battled in a Bey Stadium (sold separately, of course).

I recall the Sailor Moon series being quite good (I watched it with my kids).

Myself? ... I started viewing way back in the 60's with Kimba the White Lion, Astroy Boy, Prince Planet, Gigantor and Speed Racer.

When it comes to fads on the level of Pokemon, I would have to say Naruto is a good example. Here is proof: https://www.japanpowered.com/anime-articles/top-10-influential-anime-america

Go to number 2. From what I can tell Naruto was very popular in the late 2000s. And Yu-Gi-Oh! fits in between, as does Harry Potter, Beyblade, and Bionicle.

I completely forgot about Naruto. Naruto is definitely one of the most obviousness after Pokémon.

Come to think of it, I had a hard time figuring out what was the dominant kid fad after Naruto in the second half of the first decade of the 21st century. I think that is due to a demographic divide among children.

Here is a discussion of fads in the mid-to-late 2000s: http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=53663.0

That might clear things up.

After Pokémon it was Yu-Gi-Oh and then it was Beyblade (concurrently popular with Yu-Gi-Oh). Digimon was big too.
