Subject: Early 2000's Phone Party Line fad

Written By: John Titor on 04/17/18 at 11:51 am

Anyone remember this in the 2000s? LOl

Everyone was using it to meet up at night back in the day lmao
The precursor to Myspace, roughly lasted from late 2001 to around
somewhere in late 2002

You could add friends and even message people like Myspace but
using your dial pad, even had a bulletin board like myspace as well.

They are still around now :)

I call this one regurally and talk to them: 712-432-6499 -- Im usually in room 1 but sometimes I goto room 2....

Nicest bunch of people I have ever found..... The main greeting says "A meeting place for Blind and visually impaired...." but its not restricted to that.........

Often if you stayed up too late at night, you'd see them on TV, but I feel this "fad" peaked in the late '80s/early '90s (I have a bunch of commercials from that era), by the time the 21st century arrived, online dating had largely killed this off, though I remember seeing some commercials as late as 2005. 900 or other premium phone service lines have been extinct for many many years now, and I couldn't imagine how much people shelled back in the day.

When I was calling those phone party lines back in the early 1990's I used to try to fake my voice by sounding like a girl and I got a couple of responses. You just leave a message and wait for the responses, I forgot the name of the party line. ???

This trend actually started around the mid-80s with all those 976 numbers, with the 1989 film 976-EVIL a horror parody of that fad. In fact, if you grew up in Southern California in the mid-to late '80s, you may have come across the radio call-in show "Susan Block's Match Night".

Yes, I do remember those 976 hotline numbers and then they told you to call but ask your parent's permission. I think they were 99 cents a minute I believe.  ???
