Subject: Your favorite early, mid, late 2000's year.

Written By: Rainbowz on 04/03/18 at 2:56 pm

Assuming 2000-2002 is early, 2003-2006 is mid and 2007-2009 is late, which year do you like the most from each epoch?

For me:

Early 2000's: 2000
I really liked a lot of the songs that 2000 had. My favorites are "It Feels So Good", "Conant Gardens" "So Fresh So Clean", "Doesn't Really Matter", "The Real Slim Shady", "Country Grammar". I consider 2000 to be the 3rd best year for music in the 2000's IMO.

The mid-2000's: 2003
2003 is my most favorite year for music of the 2000's. This year produced so much good music. This is easily one of my top favorite years for music of all time. "Hey, Ya!", "The Way You Move", "Crazy in Love","Suga Suga", "Ignition", "Right Thurr" I could make like a thousand page book on all the songs I love from 2003.

Late 2000's: 2007
I feel as if 2007 was one of the most unique years of the 2000's. It was the year of the iPhone, the start of the recession in December, but it still felt overall like a core 2000's year and definitely the last. I personally consider 2007 my second favorite year for music of the 2000's. I love "Ayo Technology", "Apologize", "Shut Up And Drive", "Kiss Kiss", "The Way I Are", "Give It To Me", "Piece Of Me", and so much more.

That's not going to change the fact that 2003 is numerically more mid-200's than early, given that it started in May 2003, which means more than half of that year was mid-2000's. You're going by a subjective definition, I'm going by an objective one.

Numerical speaking it was the start of mid, but not quite culturally...

2003 and 2007 both have something in common, neither are mid 00's years culturally, but both are still core 00's years culturally. 2003 being the first year of core and 2007 being the last year of core. It doesn't even have to do with that. When you look at pop cultural events and memories, magazines, documentaries, etc. nearly everybody in society still considers 2003 as early 00's. They'll say "back in the early 00's" when they're talking about 2003. If you type in "2010's decade" on google search, you'll see pop culture going back to 2009, which proves that 2010's culture started before 2010 began. Just like 80's culture kinda started in 1979 too. It wasn't like that with the 90's and 00's, the cultures of those decades started afterwards. None of this came from me, it comes from actually doing your research and homework.

To me, both from memory and from re-listening to the songs that were popular in that time period, 2002-2004 had its own unique vibe to it, while 2005-2007 had its own unique vibe. Emo broke out into the mainstream in the summer of 2002 when Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" went platinum, as well as with the success of Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional.
However, a lot of the emo/pop-punk music from 2002-2004 felt more "skater", probably since Y2K-era influences were still lingering on a bit.
It wasn't really until Late 2004 Early 2005 with the success of albums such as My Chemical Romance "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" and Hawthorne Heights "The Silence in Black and White", as well as with MySpace's rise to popularity, when the counter-culture felt more "goth" than "skater".

It doesn't matter, only OP made this up, that's her opinion. If someone wants to choose 2003 as their favorite early or mid 00's year, that's fine. If someone wants to pick 2006 as their favorite mid or late 00's year, that's fine. Half of y'all weren't even old enough to remember the early 00's.

No that is not an opinion. It is a FACT that 2003 is mathematically more mid 2000s than early. Mid 2000s technically started in May 2003. Read the thread it simply states “Assuming 2000-2002 is early, 2003-2006 is mid and 2007-2009 is late” so we are just going to assume 2003 is mid.

It doesn’t matter. 2003 is still mainly mid 2000s whether it was culturally more early 2000s or not. Simple as that. You can say 2003 is early because it was exactly like 2002 but that doesn’t change the fact that mid 2000s started in May 2003 and that is a FACT. Most of 2003 is technically mid 2000s and that is a fact

Most people I know don't use the "technically numerically correct system" of dividing decades.

Most (but not all) people divide decades like this:

Years ending in 0-3 (early part of a decade)

Years ending in 4-6 (middle part of a decade)

Years ending in 7-9 (late/end part of a decade)

The problem is you guys are being biased by saying 2003 is early 2000s because the culture wasn’t different from 2002 and 2001 when ignoring the true fact that the mid 2000s started in May 2003. I’m not saying 2003 wasn’t early 2000s culturally but when looking at it from an objective and mathematical viewpoint it is technically mid 2000s and that’s why the OP said 2003-2006

It's pretty conventional that people use the 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 system. It makes no sense to try and be "mathematically correct" because years aren't measured in thirds or whatever. It's just the ENTIRE year regardless of whether that year was culturally or not culturally similar to the years prior.

2003 is early 2000s tbh but I'm not going to pick between 2004-2006 so 2003 is the best.

So is using 2000-2002, 2003-2006 and 2007-2009. So what’s your point? ??? Whether or not 2003 is culturally early 2000s is debatable. Whether or not it’s numerically early 2000s is not. You can say 2003 is early 2000s for a billion times but my point still stands. 2003 is more mid 2000s numerically and that’s a fact that cannot be disputed

What’s my point? My point is 2003 is numerically more mid 2000s than early. Only early 2003 is early 2000s. The rest is mid 2000s that went on until August 2006.

2000-2002 is early 2000s
2003 is early/mid leaning towards mid
2004-2005 is mid 2000s
2006 is mid/late leaning towards late
2007-2009 is late

Now if you want to make it more convenient
2000-2002: early
2003-2006: mid
2007-2009: late

Mathematically the mid 2000s started in May 2003, but a lot of people still considered nearly the whole year of 2003 to be early 2000s.

Exactly! That’s what I have been trying to say. Early 2003 is the last of the early 2000s mathematically. The next 8 months were mid 2000s

Wow.

All it took for me was to say that 2003 was mid-2000's, and yet that pretty much caused a "Is 2003 really an early 2000's year?" argument. I know some people will consider it early and that's fine with me, but there's no need to start an argument over it. The point of this thread wasn't to discuss decadeology or whether if 2003 was early or mid-2000's. All it was was to post your favorite early, mid or late 2000's year but I'm not surprised this caused a bit of a flame war.

I'm not going to lock the thread this time, but if the arguments about 2003 being early or mid continues then I'm going to have to.

Mathematically, 2003 is more mid than early.

Culturally, Late 2001 - Early 2004 was it's own era.

There, problem solved, everybody!

What people are trying to say is that 2003 is just too good to be mid-2000s. Mid-2000s is a poor man's early 2000s. It is known. 2003 has that qualiTy that 2004 didn't have.

Time for my final take on this. Saving myself for last. I was in elementary school from 2001-2007, and the even numbered summers were the best for my personal life, such as 2002, 2004, and 2006. The odd numbered summers such as 2003 and 2005 were boring but excellent pop culturally which payed off.

I didn't enjoy the late 00's, but 2007 would be my favorite year because most of that year I still wasn't in middle school yet (until August) and due to my dad's job I went on a bunch of vacations throughout that year such as Washington D.C., Huntsville, Alabama, Savannah, GA (again), Nashville, Tennessee, etc. 2007 was the peak of the Nintendo DS (Lite) and a great year for gaming in general, especially for the early XBOX 360 days and the Wii. People talk negative about music from 2005-2008, well, 2007 was DEFINITELY the best year for music in this time period. Rihanna was on the rise this year. Soulja Boy and Flo Rida had great songs. DJ Khaled "We Takin Over" was amazing and so catchy that it couldn't get out of your head. I believe anybody had a guilty pleasure for 2007 music especially since this was the first year of my life I was keeping up with music on my own without my parents.

So for my mid 00's pick it's going to be very hard between 2004 and 2006. I've talked about 2006 so many times on this forum, my favorite summer of my childhood because of Savannah GA (first time), Disney World for a whole week, and my first family reunion. 2004 marked the end of 2nd grade which is tied for my favorite class of elementary school along with 3rd grade. 2006 marked the end of 4th grade but my 4th grade teacher was mean/tough, but I made a lot of friends in 4th grade at the same time. Pop culture and television in 2004 were way better than 2006 and it wasn't even close. I went to Sarasota FL twice in 2004 and I went on my first plane ride ever to Jamaica, which to this day is still the only time I've ever been out of the country my whole life. Since 2004 had vacations and good pop culture I'll pick 2004 as my favorite mid 00's year, but 2006 still remains my favorite summer ever.

2002 was definitely the best early 00's year for me, because it was the only full early 00's year I was in my core childhood. Despite how great 2000 and 2001 were pop culturally, I was only 4 in 2000 too young to experience that year, still a lot of vague blurry memories, and 2001 was very boring for my personal life as I was still in pre-K half of that year and just starting Kindergarten later that year. So much happened in my family throughout 2002, that spring break and that summer were both amazing. I went to the theater and watched a lot of movies throughout 2002, played a lot of lego & hot wheels toys, and I was into a lot of kid stations throughout 2002 since the lineups were full of so much variety that year.  Good memories.

Here's how I'd rank them, both from my personal experiences and from a music/gaming standpoint.
Not going to include 2000 since I don't really remember that year.

1. 2003
For music, this was absolutely the best year of the 00s. The party rap songs from this year were fun, and the pop-punk and alt-rock songs from this year were just great. You had Evanescence, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Blink 182, and Yellowcard all release great albums this year, the whole "vibe" of this years music is perfectly exemplified by the soundtrack in SSX3, aka the best snowboarding game of all time. Speaking of that, this was also a very good year for gaming as well, not the best, but a very good one, you had Jak II, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time released this year, and it was also the best year for X-sports games, you had Tony Hawk Underground, 1080 Avalanche, Amped 2, and as already stated before, SSX3.
My personal life in this year was just so much fun, it's the first year I remember crystal clearly. Kindergarten, Chuck E Cheese's, my first time enjoying roller coasters at amusement parks, playing video games with my sister and cousin, going to the roller skating rink with them and getting cotton candy while there, maybe it's because I was 5 going on 6 this year, but I just remember this time just being so much fun. Plus, Christmas 2003, and getting a PS2 for Christmas, that was such a great memory...

2. 2007
Gaming wise, this was the best year of the 00s hands down, it was when the 7th Gaming Generation really started to come in full swing, yet before games truly started getting corrupted with DLC. A lot of great gaming series debuted in this year, such as Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Portal, and Rock Band, plus this year also saw the release of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, even if you despise how much of a cashcow Call of Duty became afterwards, you can't deny COD4 certainly was great for its time. Plus you had the release of great platformers such as Super Mario Galaxy and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, as well as the the Guitar Hero series still going strong with Guitar Hero III.
This was also a really good year for music, and in my opinion, probably the last good year for mainstream music. You still had a lot of great rock songs that received a lot of radio airplay, such as Linkin Park's "What I've Done", Finger Eleven's "Paralyzer", and Foo Fighters "Pretender", plus the singles off of Daughtry's album.
My personal life in this year was also very good. I got my Nintendo DS in the Christmas prior, and I played it a ton throughout 2007, especially Animal Crossing: Wild World, I played the living hell out of that game. We also went to Disneyworld at the end of this year for Christmas break.

3. 2006
The alt-rock released in this year is hands down the best the 00s has to offer. This year was arguably the peak of emo's popularity, and in it, you had some of the greatest and most compelling alt rock songs of all time released in this year, including My Chemical Romance "Welcome to the Black Parade", Three Days Grace "Animal I Have Become", Evanescence "Call Me When You're Sober", Breaking Benjamin "The Diary of Jane", AFI "Miss Murder", Blue October "Hate Me", and Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars".
Gaming wise, this was an exciting year because of the release of the Wii and PS3, but also this year saw the release of some really great games such as Okami, Guitar Hero II, and the original New Super Mario Bros. for the DS.
Speaking of the DS, that brings me to my personal life this year, as stated above, Christmas of this year is when I got my DS. Before then, though, I played a lot of Guitar Hero and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves on my PS2. I especially had a very fun summer this year, as we got a new puppy, and we went to the Grand Canyon in Arizona for the first time.

4. 2004
This was the year Green Day released American Idiot, that was a damn good album. You also had The Killers, Papa Roach, and Seether release great albums in this year as well.
Gaming wise, you had the Jak and Ratchet series wrap up their trilogies with Jak 3 and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, as well as Sucker Punch release by far the best game in the Sly Cooper franchise, Sly 2: Band of Thieves. This is also the year Fable, Far Cry, and World of Warcraft both made their debut, as well as the year a lot of phenomenal sequels such as The Sims 2, Halo 2, and Half Life 2, as well as the legendary Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, all came out.
As for my personal life, this was the first full year in which I owned the PS2, so throughout this year, I got A LOT of PS2 games, including ones that came out a few years before such as Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and I played that console every day for hours on end after coming home from school, often times with my sister and/or my cousin. We also moved to a new house at the beginning of this year, and that's always a life changer.

5. 2001
This is the first year I can really say I remember, I started preschool in June of this year when I was 3 years 6 months, that's really when my full motion memories really started. I do remember preschool being very fun, playing with toys, making arts and crafts, watching Blues Clues, playing Jumpstart and Humungeous Entertainment games on the computer, watching my cousin and sister play video games, and seeing Shrek and Monster's Inc in theaters. Hell I even remember seeing 9/11 in the newspapers (not saying this to squeeze into Gen Y).
Anyways, music wise, what I especially remember hearing the most in this time period was post-grunge and pop-rock, be it from Nickelback, Creed, Staind, Lifehouse, The Calling, Puddle of Mudd, Sugar Ray, Train, and Incubus, as well as a bunch of Y2K era dance pop and country, these songs I do enjoy, but mostly for nostalgic value.
Gaming wise, this is the year the 6th Gaming Generation came in full swing with the release of the Gamecube and the Xbox at the end of this year, as well as with the release of some stellar games such as Devil May Cry, SSX Tricky, Animal Crossing, Halo: Combat Evolved, Grand Theft Auto III, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.

6. 2002
This year I remember a bit better than 2001, but still not as crystal clear as 2003 onwards. Was still in preschool all throughout this year, and had my first girlfriend when I was only 4. I also remember my first time playing Banjo Tooie in this year, it was a rental from Hollywood Video and came in a plastic-VHS like case. Did much of the same stuff this year as I did in 2001, this was also a very fun year for me, probably since it was still very early in my life.
Music wise, this was when the 00s really got its own identity separate from even the late 90s. You had a lot of really good alt rock songs come out this year, with albums from Papa Roach, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, as well as the posthumous release of Nirvana's "You Know You're Right", plus this was the best year of the 00s for rap music with the release of Eminem's "The Eminem Show", and Nelly's "Nellyville".
This was also a very good year gaming wise, with the debut of Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, and the Metroid Prime series, as well as with Super Mario Sunshine and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

7. 2005
This was the most "okay" year of the 00s for me.
Music wise, there really weren't too many stellar rock songs released in this year.
Gaming wise, it was pretty good, with the release of great games such as Psychonauts, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, and Animal Crossing: Wild World, but the year in general for gaming was nothing to write home about.
My personal life in this year was still good, I was still playing the hell out of my PS2, we got our trampoline I played on a lot, and I went to a fun water park this year, but this was also the year I started dealing with a bit of bullying.

8. 2008
This is the year music started to become awful. Rock music became way less popular in this year, and the billboards for this year are covered with abysmal ringtone hip hop hits, and to add insult to injury, it was when Katy Perry and Lady Gaga made their debut, plus you had crunkcore become popular with the garbage that is 3OH!3's "Don't Trust Me".
Gaming wise, it was still a very good year, especially for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but still, this was also the year Nintendo had its worst E3 conference.
My personal life started becoming bad this year, I still enjoyed the summer I had this year, but school was becoming hellish.

9. 2009
My god, this year deserves to rot in hell. My personal life was quite possibly the worst in this year. This was the first year I no longer felt like a "kid" in, I was starting middle school, all my peers were now cussing, and everyone was interested in the opposite sex, and words like "gay" and "queer" were thrown around aimlessly. This is when the bullying got really bad, to the point where I even got in trouble for making a Columbine threat... not that I meant it when I said it, but yeah, the bullying did get that bad...
Music wise, this was hands down the worst year of the 00s, rock music was pretty much dead, and electropop garbage was in with songs such as "Boom Boom Pow" and "Tik Tok".
The only thing good about this year was the gaming, this is when Minecraft and Plants VS Zombies came out, as well as Sims 3, InFAMOUS, Assassin's Creed II, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, and Call of Juarez: Blood in Bound.

Also, the 00s was hands down the best decade for gaming.

Here's my experience in the 2000's years. I only remember the second half of the 2000's, so I can only answer for the mid-late 2000's parts.

For Pop Culture:
Favorite Mid 00's year: 2006
Favorite Late 00's year: 2007

Personally:
Favorite Mid 00's year: 2005
Favorite Late 00's year: 2009

2005
I was just starting preschool this year. We had a GameCube and we still a Nintendo 64. The first game I saw was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I shoved pennies in the cartridge slot, and the Nintendo 64 was broken. I remember going to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. I also remember my little sister being born in October of this year.
Great games such as Kingdom Hearts 2 and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time came out this year.

2006
My little sister was a baby throughout the year, so I remember my parents buying baby food, a car seat, and a crib for her. I remember seeing the commercial for New Super Mario Bros (for DS) which I got in a later year. I remember when the Wii and PS3 came out. I keep asking my parents for a Wii for the next two years.  I remember watching my brother play The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Prince. We even had a poster for the game.
The Wii had great launch titles such as Wii Sports, Zelda: Twilight Prince, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves. I started playing soccer this year, though I didn't play in 2007 or 2008.

2007
I entered kindergarten this year, which was very fun. I had my first kiss with a girl, she was black, by the way. The only console I had was the Nintendo GameCube, which changed in 2008. Cartoon Network was still producing shows such as Codename: KND, Ed Edd N Eddy, and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. Chowder premiered that year, good stuff. I liked novelty songs such as Chank That, Apologize, and Umbrella. Windows Vista came out, the best operating system, in my opinion. I remember watching the Simpsons Movie and The Bee Movie in theaters.
Great games came out such as Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario,  Halo 3, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and Metriod Prime 3: Corruption.

2008
I got a black Gameboy Advance SP for my 6th birthday with Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots. The GBA was discontinued later that year. We got a PlayStation 2 Slim in April with Kingdom Hearts 2. I eventually got The Bee Movie Game on PS2. I started first grade at a new school and I was heavily bullied physically. I started to hate school and my report cards were sheesh. I remember watching Bolt in theaters. On Christmas 2008, I got a Nintendo Wii with Wii Sports and Wii Play, which was a great experience. On New Years Eve, we got Super Smash Bros Brawl. George Bush was phasing out of his presidency this year and Obama won the 2008 Election.

2009
This was my first full year of owning a Nintendo Wii, and I got to play lots of games for it. Obama's inauguration was all over TV at school and home. This is the year my family upgraded to HD Flat screens and Blu-Ray. I found out about YouTube around the beginning of this year and I started watching Classic Game Room. Near the end of the year, New Super Mario Bros Wii came out and I convinced my mom to get for me when I saw it. The case was so shiny! Me and my older sister got Nintendo DSi handhelds for Christmas. I got Mario Kart DS, Mario Party DS, and Superstars Tennis. My older brother got another DS Lite, after his first one broke. I was still getting bullied at school, which caused my to transfer to a new school in 2010. I started playing soccer again, which was a great experience.

Early: 2004 - Winx Club came out, Sims 2 came out, and everything else during that year was falling closer in line to what I grew to like. This is despite this being the year I moved into the UK, and the first few years in the UK weren't so great for me.

Mid: 2006 - mostly because I got to visit America then.

Late: 2009? Guys started wearing their hair longer then.

To me, a real girl/boy-friend doesn't count until you're at least 10 years old (late elementary school like 4th or 5th grade). Any age before that is just silly and doesn't count. Real girl on boy kisses or boy on girl kisses don't count until age 10 either in my book. If you didn't have a girlfriend or boyfriend in middle school or high school, it's okay. College girls are the best anyway, and people are more mature by then.

Single digit kids are too immature, haven't hit puberty yet, aren't really real relationships (too young to comprehend that), don't understand the real world around them like a teen+ can, etc. Yes, middle school kids and high school kids don't know any better either compared to college age adults and older, but there's different levels of maturity and understanding the world around you the older you get, and elementary school kids aren't there yet. 3rd or 4th grade boy/girl-friends are so fake. Not real at all. I know that from personal friends I knew in life. Relationships that start in high school can last a lifetime though.

Just think about it. Living with someone the opposite gender of you since you were born or since you were 8 years old (let's say if you were adopted or sent into a foster care home), it would be disgusting to marry that person one day. You form a sibling/cousin/true friend relationship with someone you knew since your single digits. You form a boy/girl-friend relationship with someone you meet one day as a teen or young adult. Someone you'd want to marry or have sex with.

The electropop era (2008-2012) was a great time for music. 2013 set us up for the mid 2010s and 2016 was a transitional year into the late 2010s

Early: 2000 - The end of the really old days, Clinton was still president, end of the dot com boom, last technical year of the 20th century, seems truly retro now tbh.

Mid: 2003 - Height of my teens, pop music was my world, school was alright, still a bit innocent and naïve of the world but knew a lot more than I did as a little kid.

Late: 2008 - I just turned 21 which was fun, still liked and cared about the music, last Bush year (I sorta miss him too now tbh), Obama's election was inspiring at the time though his presidency ended up being rather mediocre, this is around the most recent time that I think is noticably old now.

What's funny is that 2013 will always be a mid 2010's year to me, considering that I was 17 at the time (a teen just like you were in 2003), and 2013 was a horrible year for my personal life, even though it may have been a good year pop culturally for a lot of people.

I love 2000 for my personal memories but didn't follow much music back then. The only musical era I like from the 2000s is 2003-2004. 2003 is my favorite. Most western music has already been mentioned, but I also remember Jewe's Intuition sexy video and when Dannii Minogue was bigger in 2003 than here sister Kylie for a while with I Begin To Wonder.

This a cover by a Bulgarian (original is Craig David - Walking Away) from 2003:

The summer of 2003 was so great for my personal life. This is from September 2003:

And one from 2004:

I remember when the BMW1 series was launched with a bang in 2004 I think. 2003 and to a lesser extent 2004 were the two sanest years of a bad decade for me. Only 2000 was better than them.

So:

2000

2003
2004

The late 2000s were very stressfull and I didn't and still don't like the music from back then (Give me the 2013-2014 Rihanna over her late 00s self anyday! I hate the Umbrella!).

Mid  -  2005

Late-  2008  (Late 2006 as well but its not as full Late year)

I'm surprised you didn't pick 2004 for mid-2000's, considering that your username is "That 2004 Vibe".  ;D

Because you don't talk much. You registered the same year as me and you only have 145 posts. I have over 3000+ while others who've been registered less time than you have more posts than you (or even me). You can interact with us more if you have time, but you don't. COMMUNICATION is key to gaining a following!

and people are going to ignore posts. We never respond to everything. That's part of it. I've made a couple threads before that NOBODY responded to and I felt bad sometimes, but I just brushed it off and continued starting conversations or interacting with the crowd, even if it's something random.

I rarely post, yet I get responses to most of my posts.

That's cause you have more posts than him (all of us registered in 2015), and at least you've tried.

Almost the same as mine, but I would pick 2001 as it was a better year in my personal life.

I think I agree with you.

I'm thinking either 2000 or 2003 for early 2000s. I'm leaning 2000. The movie Bring it On was my ish.

Mid: 2004 (hm 2005)

Her hair is outmoded because she’s from the poorest region of my country. It’s like the US redneck/flyover area. And yes, most people there are far more traditional. I think she was beaten or sth for bein different. Bio women over there also dress a bit behind times.

Early: 2000

It had the cheerful atmosphere of the late 90s, Bill Clinton was still my president, and of course pre-9/11.

Mid: 2004

Much like 1984 and 1994, I consider 2004 to be the most culturally revered year of its decade. I like this year because it represented a sharp departure from the early 00s, which had worn itself out at that point. This was also the first year that I definitively felt more "adult" than "child."

Late: 2009

I had a miserable high school experience, so it's 2009 by default since I graduated that year. Plus, we got a new president.
