I am lol :D! It was one of my favorite years during my childhood. Its crazy how these photos are almost 16 years old though.
That means there's kids in high school that weren't even a twinkle in their parent's eyes when these photos were taken :o.
I recently found this old commercial break from roughly the Winter of 2001/2002: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cz6O0FFj3Q&index=6&list=PLqeTNHdKAyNobN6G6Uanp2ElcK8eL6-wu
I cant for some reason show the video on this site, I'm guessing the guy has it blocked
It includes old commercial breaks during airings of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Who Wants To Be a Billionaire, so around the time these photos were taken. Its crazy how dated these commercials look. The 2000s were once the decade that looked futuristic, sleek, and minimalistic, but now as we get closer to the 2020s those traits are now starting to seem VERY dated. Not to mention the many 90s trends that were still present in 2002...

For me it was the second photo in the set. That picture alone basically perfectly encapsulates how I remember summer camp around that time.

At first it was but by 2004, that futuristic style mostly wasn't there anymore. Shame.

I wouldn't say 2002 was futuristic as y2k was pretty much dead by summer 2001, by the time 9/11 happened
we were moving to the more bling bling, Juicy/ Sum 41 pop punk vibe

5th picture is funny. Shows that even tho DVDs were now big you still had huge sections of stores devoted to VHSs.

I wouldn't say dead by summer 2001. 2002 still had a lot of futuristic looking stuff in it. 2002 was more of the transition from the futuristic look into the Pop Punk vibe, I think. Although I also remember seeing some say that the Y2K vibe peaked in late 1999-early 2000 and by the time you got to late 2000 - mid 2001 the Y2K trend was declining.
Overall I did like the vibe of 2002's pop culture. Pop Culture was great and didn't have the annoying issues (half of which aren't real issues and are more superficial in my opinion, but this world likes to exaggerate) that we have today.

True but even those traits are looking VERY dated from a 2017/2018 perspective. Although, since Late 2016 some baggy/minimalistic styles that reckon back to the late 90's/early 00's are making a comeback like oversized hoodies/sweatshirts, shorter hair, brands like FILA and Adidas, etc. But these trends are very big where I am at in the Northeast, which is typically ahead of most of the country fashion & trends wise.
By 2020, I'd suspect that most of these trends would be mainstream everywhere, thus 2000s nostalgia influenced fashion would be VERY big.

To be truly honest, I don't want too many trends from the past to come back. I want the late 2010's and 2020's to have its own unique culture and style. I also noticed that people are starting to become way more nostalgic than they used to. Even as recent as 2016 hardly anyone I knew was nostalgic. Since 2017, my friends and family have been playing songs from like the 90's and 2000's, I'm not saying it's bad, it's just something I've noticed.

In television commercials and tech at least, I remember 2002-mid 2004 still having that Y2K feel to it. For example the iMac G4 from 2002.

You'd be surprised. In all honesty, every decade since the 1980s has incorporated some trends from previous decades, while refining them and simultaneously introducing new trends. Since the 2010s was a decade mainly as a way to harken back on some 80's/90's trends, the late 2010s & 2020s are going to be influenced by the 90's/00's, while, of course, introducing new modern trends. I predict that the 'futurism' trend (which was very popular in the late 90's) is going to make a huge comeback (in some ways it has already have, especially in the rise of fashionable technology like the Apple Watch), especially being attributed with us entering the first score of the 21st century, 2020! Expect MAJOR nostalgia for the Y2K scare and 2000 anticipation in or around 2020.

Of course, there may be a small cult who would preferred bobbed hair, dixieland jazz music, and art deco in this "new '20s" like their great (-great) grandparents loved.
Still, this is a very good collection to represent what was still in the shadow of 9/11, even though many had moved on. Google at the time was not even four years old, yet someone is already using it. Of course, this was just three months before the "F" became "E" in WWF.
That iMac G4 was quite sleek compared to regular iMacs most people still had for another couple years, as it was the first Mac with a LCD narrow screen as opposed to being a CRT monitor, which of course still dominated TV sales. Hard to believe its as old today as what the first part of 1986 was then. The tagline on Crossroads though describes life the best. For many, dreams have changed from a certain job, often out of their league, to simply raising kids and being involved in your local community, but of course, social media keeps friends in touch forever. Speaking of which, no cellphones or all that present here! But of course, youth goes fast as just last month, I just discovered my first gray hairs, and we must make the most of what we got left in life!

Early 2002 WWF was amazing, when it changed to WWE it started going downhill with the draft.
I miss CRT monitors tbh. I will add more to this thread later on.

When The Panda organization took WWF to court, The World Wildlife Organization won and WWF was forced to change to WWE and used it ever since.

I did something really similar this summer, where my personal iPod playlist is now stuffed to the brim with all sorts of bubblegum pop, R&B, ska, and pop punk from approximately 1998-2004. It's pretty f'ing magical.

I didn't particularly care for the early part of 2002 (about the first 3 months). I was suffering from insomnia so it's not a good memory at all. The vibe was also still depressing as it was right after 9/11, and the music reflected it.
Btw, anybody remember the Nike commercial from that time, which had piano music like Vanessa Carlton's "1000 Miles" song, and people doing different sporting activities from kicking a soccer ball to bungee jumping?

Here's that said commercial. I guess it was made for the Winter Olympics, which was around that time too. I remember watching the opening ceremony of the SLC games. It was especially a huge deal when Team USA came out during the parade of flags, since it was right after 9/11.

Yes. I abbreviated it in my post as SLC.

I mean we still had the memories of 9/11 fresh in our head, but the world
was not still in that state in 2002
The gen vibe I got from early 2002 was not really upbeat but not depressing
but also exciting, its hard to explain

I celebrated my 9th birthday then. I do have photos of that day. I was wearing a red plaid shirt that was very long and went halfway down to my knees, and very baggy jeans.
February 2001 (my 8th birthday) will never be topped though, now that month was legendary!

Although this is later in the year, this still pretty much sums up what being a kid in the late 90's/early 2000s was all about 8).

Seeing those Dragon Ball Z/Yu-Gi-Oh! ads makes me wish I was a kid again.

Haha same. That Sock em bopper's ad really brought me back though 8). I haven't seen that ad in years. They used to play that one on CN a lot, along with this iconic ad:

Good Fall Out Boy when they sounded like Saves The Day and before they started foreshadowing faux-emo with Take This To Your Grave in 2003.

Speaking about movies, 2002 was also the peak in popularity of Blockbuster.

It was at its peak in sales, notoriety, variety in films, video format options (vast amounts of VHS tapes, and DVDs starting to be a killing), sweepstakes, I could go on and on.
Any of you guys remember these commercials?
