It was def there, I noticed people in the malls still had the aesthetic

Does Ignorance by Paramore count as an emo song? (I had no idea people considered Paramore to be emo, but a lot of people do.)
And yes, I agree with you. 2008-2009 school year was the last I noticed any real emo presence. My brother actually went emo in late 2009 (in reality, he was too lazy to cut his hair), and everyone at school had already considered emo a done thing by then. He was "late to the party".

I'd actually agree that there was a shift in 2009.
In early 2009, I still saw some emo styles, but by the end of the year, things seemed rather different.

Yeah. 2000's emo did. Not the modern emo. That's totally different. They still listen to the same sort of music, but the clothing, styles and fashion are more modern (e.g. people don't really wear silly bandz or shutter shades or 2000's things anymore)

I agree that it did. I remember seeing other people wear emo fashion and even talking about the style until either towards the end of the year or 2010. I don't know why some folks believe think that people stopped wearing Emo earlier than 2009.

Not sure, but 2009 was the last time Canadian emo punk band Marianas Trench released an actual emo album. I know this because I was a fan of them in '09. They went pop after that.

The hair guys wear now is just generally shorter. Girls look a bit different this decade. Plus, I totally agree with your sig.

Shame.

I believe it died at around 2013, when guys started wearing their hair short again.

It started to decline in late 2009 and it was virtually gone by 2013. A lot of people want to say 2005 or 2006 was the peak of emo culture but personally I say it was 2007 or 2008. Emo and scene were inescapable in 2008.

I've heard some people say emo ended in 2007 which is probably too early.

2003-04 = early emo
2004-05 = emo explodes in popularity
2005-06 = emo continues to gain ground
2006-07 = emo's peak. With the rise of YouTube, it becomes strongly associated with attention seeking and cutting yourself.
2007-08 = emo's second biggest year, backlash brewing
2008-09 = backlash begins, last year with any emo.
2009-10 = emo dead and buried. Bands that were considered emo started moving onto other sounds. Some people had long hair but that doesn't mean they're emo. Is Justin Bieber's "Baby" an emo song? Lol.

From what i can remember 2007/08 was when i noticed it at the most, i was hanging out with that kinda scene then wearing red converse, colourful hoodie, skinny jeans and long hair.. imo the emo era lasted until 2010/11 ish
