Subject: R.I.P YouTube (2005-2012)

Written By: temaichi on 08/17/17 at 9:58 am

Don`t you guys just miss the old YouTube with sheeshty quality in 240p with overused music? I start to feel nostalgic when i watch old YouTube videoes from the 2000s. The videoes were so creative and funny. Back when people got famous for making entertaining videoes like Smosh, KevJumba, nigahiga, FRED, Eddsworld, Ray William Johnson, machinima, and so many more unlike stupid YouTubers nowdays that clickbaits and inserts titties in the thumbnail and a title with capital letters and put a "(Gone wrong)" at the end of the title to get more clicks. Back then it wasn`t about getting clicks. It was about sharing home videoes. But it`s more of a business site now and i think that has ruined the true purpose of YouTube. The gaming videoes were alot more fun to watch back then too and don`t get me started on the tutorials with notepad and music in the background! That was the sheesh!! The YouTube site was so much easier to go through too unlike today where everything is broken. I would do anything to go back to that time! I think YouTube died out in mid 2012. That`s when i noticed that things started to suck. What do you guys think?`Did you like YouTube alot more back in the days? Let me know!

I liked YouTube back in the days, years before Google took over it.

2009-2012 HD YouTube doesn't belong with 2005-2008 SD YouTube. 2 different eras buddy trust me. I understand all these years were before Google Plus took over, but the periods still weren't the same though.

That`s true but they were both good era`s before Google Plus so that would make 2012 the last great year for YouTube.

I don't really like it now because of some video that I loved that got taken down either by the user or by a copyright strike; it was really beautiful. It was uploaded back in 2008.

I totally agree. In fact after 2009 YouTube actually was not as fun anymore and I didn't like the site. I distinctly remember complaining about it in 2011 (the layout specifically) and saying how I miss the old YouTube.

I miss 2006 - 2009 YouTube the most. 2007 - 2009 was YouTube's golden years. That is when you had all the content you want but still had a lot of videos made by users themselves that were fun to watch. It was when YouTube was still about "Broadcast Yourself". It started going downhill in my opinion around 2010.

I had forgotten all about that "Broadcast Yourself" phrase until now!

Personally I don't think it has gone downhill (that's just my personal opinion). I just like to go there to view certain things and/or listen to certain music when I'm in the mood.

That's not early though. Most people joined 2006. 2005 would be kind of early, although not unusual to hear about it if you were a teen at the time. I had mine for just over 11 years as well. Even on this board I've seen many people saying they joined in 2006.

I definitely wouldn't say "most" people. Also, many people on this site were or are online geeks and so they don't really count, lol.

Well by late 2006 I didn't know anyone who hasn't visited the site because it was the largest video sharing site on the internet even in early 2006.

I think I joined in July 2006, when I first discovered YouTube all I wanted to do was to watch videos but then I found out there was a section where you could save music videos to a folder and 11 years later I now have a folder entitled "jamminoldies" with over 200 videos.

My YouTube account was created on July 3, 2006. But, I had actually been going on YouTube since perhaps December 2005, and the account was because I wanted to watch a video that had been flagged.

By the way, YouTube is still my favorite website, and the site that I probably spend more hours at than any other even after 12 years. There's certainly some nostalgia for the early less corporate days of YouTube before it was taken over by Google, but the amount of cool video content is still awesome.

True, Howard. It`s just not the same anymore. That`s not what YouTube is about. Skrew the money and fame.It ain`t about that! It`s about sharing funny & creative videoes to share with your friends and family like what the old YouTubers used to do. The YouTubers now are mostly youngsters that has lost their mind in fame and money. The website ruined them. People like Jake Paul who is the moost fastest growing YouTube channel alongside his brother has completely lost it. :(

Even though it`s sheeshty it still remains as my fav website too. It was my first place to get a social media account afterall. ::) But i`ve seen alot of YouTubers move to websites like www.vid.me which is "the new YouTube" the community reminds me of the old YouTube again so i ofcourse registered to be apart of that again.

On YouTube now you have a new generation of YouTubers that were born from 1995-1997 that have risen up and are currently dominating YouTube (Logan and Jake Paul, Liza Koshy, Rachel Levin (Rclbeauty101), RiceGum, Lele Pons, Alissa Violet, David Dobrik). There's more of these guys rising up and also eventually 1998 and 1999 borns will become more prominent and then early '00s will do the same. The passage of time folks! :P

I didn't mean it in a malicious way...I even added the emoticon to show that. I was saying that it's none of my business...because it's literally none of my business. If you want to have a YouTube account or not is your personal choice...not mine.  Don't take it the wrong way :-\\.

I agree with Mqg. Both eras were actually different from each other, and I would extend the HD era to 2013. That year was still good on Youtube unlike now.

Now for the question, yes I do. Those eras of Youtube were fantastic to the point I was on there watching tons of videos every day.

This was a bit funny when i read it. YouTube is for EVERYBODY you don`t have to hit a certain age to become popular on YouTube. I started when i was 11 years old and i am turning 17 soon. I`ve seen alot of younger kids making a huge YouTube career in such a short time. It`s the entertainment industry, buddy. Anybody can do it on the internet. Even you. ;)

Oh, I'm not disputing that YouTube isn't for everyone. I'm just saying that the a lot of the current hottest (aka biggest) YouTubers were born during a certain period (1995-1997) and eventually people born later will enter the spotlight.
