Subject: Do you consider 2006 the mid 2000s?
Written By: nintieskid999 on 04/29/17 at 9:36 pm
I group it with the late 2000s which would be 2006 until the 2008 crash. The mid 2000s are culturally 2003-2005.

By my calendar it is definitely the mid 2000s.

January 2006-August 2006 is still the mid 2000s. It was still the peak of ringtone rap, 'bling bling', Motorola Razrs, Paris Hilton, Abercrombie, Hips Don't Lie, Laguna Beach, and Pimp My Ride.
September-December 2006 though, saw a shift to the late 2000s.

*sigh* Yes, I consider 2006 to be apart of the mid 2000s (yes, ALL of 2006...from January 1, 2006 until December 31, 2006).

I guess so. I always saw the late '10s/early '10s as late 2008 - 2013, but you're right there was a slightly different era from 2006 to 2008 which I guess you can call the late 2000s. If we were going by the former, 2006 would be part of the mid 2000s but if we're saying the late 2000s was separate from the early 2010s, then 2006 would be considered late 2000s and the mid 00s would be 2003 - 2005 as you said.

I don't care. 2006 was an awfully confusing year for me, though. :D :D

Why would it not be?

Why would it not be?
Maybe because it had a slightly different vibe than 2005 when movies like Highschool Musical came out, YouTube started getting popular, and a couple other little changes. But you can argue both really.

Chronologically you'd be right (the late 00s begin chronologically on January 1st 2007 to me IMO because it would feel weird to call any 6 year chronologically late). I'm talking about culture though.

To each his own, but I think High school musical is a quintessential mid 2000s movie (the sequels are late 2000s though). I mean, just look at the way the characters dress.

Culturally, January 2006 and December 2006 were the same.

But the movie was kinda bad though, especially compared to movies before it. That was the start of Disney's downfall, along with shows like Hannah Montana which were also released that year. 2006 was like the first year Disney really started to suck.

I think we shared this video a while back on another thread, but it's pretty interesting what this guy thinks.

He's right but he should've said LATE 2006 in his video. EARLY 2006 was still good.

I actually liked High School Musical, I thought it was one of those movies that's so cheesy, it's almost charming in a way.
I didn't like Hannah Montana though.

What difference did you see? 2006 and 2007 culturally blurred to me.
