Subject: Your First Cell Phone?
Written By: mach!ne_he@d on 04/21/17 at 3:34 pm
My parents got their first cell phone sometime in 1999. It was a Nokia 918p. This was also the first cell phone I ever used.

The first cell phone I ever bought for myself was an LG TM250 in early 2005. It was pretty cheap at the time, and didn't even have a color screen.

Strangely enough, I got a Samsung cell phone as my first one back in 2014. It was okay for somebody's first cell phone, but it looked like it was made in the early-mid 2000s.

I got a little jankety phone in 2008 that I shared with my dad. IT was mostly because my mom was in the hospital and we needed to be reachable at all times.
My own personal phone after that was a silver Razr, that I put a pink and black zebra print case on. It was awesome! ;D I used to walk around thinking I was Nicole Richie with it. LOL.

Nokia 6288. It and my second phone, the Nokia 2730c, had better games in my opinion:

http://1079638729.rsc.cdn77.org/file_exchange/java_game_images/games/2/1833/real/5.jpg
This is compared to when I got Android and iOS smartphones after that, which had games that looked like what I played on a desktop computer online in the 2000s.
The phones in question:

My dad's first phone was a Nokia from 1999 too! I can't remember the model, though. It had a clamshell form like Alexander1956's.
My first phone was a Motorola C139, which I got as a hand-me-down from my dad in 2006.

The first phone I bought with my own money was the Samsung Galaxy S in 2010!

I know a few people who still have them, but I don't think they can be activated nowadays.

I don't think anybody uses monochromatic flip phones anymore. They at least have flip phones with color screens, but that's about it.

The first person I remember owning a cell phone was one of my uncles, who was fairly wealthy compared to the rest of us. He got his first cell phone sometime around 1993. I don't remember the exact name or brand of it, but it looked similar to this.

So If I go to a cell phone store with my memory card with everything I have on it, they can't transfer it to an old school phone? And will it work? ???

It probably won't work if it's pre-2000. As far as I know it depends on which network it was originally released on, but I'm no expert so.. :-\\

My first mobile phone was a black Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, which I received as a Christmas present in 2011. Nothing too exciting...

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of people our age didn't get their first phone until they were in their early teens. Most of my friends received their first phone when they were between 13-15. In fact, a friend of mine only purchased his first phone last year, at age 17! :o

I honestly don't see that as a problem since we did grew up at a time when people weren't obsessed with their phones.

Yeah I got a cell phone very late and was one of the only people in my class without a cell phone. Oddly enough I just never felt the need for one, my IPod and watch served me quite well and I just used the home phone when I needed to.

That sounds reasonable. I felt like I never really needed a cell phone, unless I had one for emergencies. The first one was just a regular cell phone with no smartphone features. I liked it because of its simplicity. Then I got an iPhone in Christmas of 2014 and I never liked it because of its short hard disk space (it had about 5GB, while the phone said 8GB). I used it for two years until I got an iPhone 6S, which had 32GB.

I felt the same. My phone was forced on to me by my parents, but I hated it because my teen angst made me see my phone as a tool my parents use to keep an eye on me and control me ;D
I'd go out and "forget" my phone in my drawer or "forget" to charge it. :-X

It was actually kind of interesting watching the cell phone transition from being nothing more than an item of convenience in the early '00s, to a status symbol in the late '00s.
When I was growing up, no kids had cell phones largely because we didn't need them. In the '90s and early '00s, cell phones were only used for their actual purpose, you know, calling people if you're not near a landline. That didn't really start changing until 2003-04, when well off kids started buying flip-phones because they looked cool. By the time 2009 hit, most of friends that had cell phones spent more time playing on them than actually talking on them.
