Subject: The most pan-'00s song
Written By: aja675 on 04/09/17 at 7:44 am
Aka the song that would fit into the most '00s years as possible. What would it be?

"How You Remind Me" by Nickelback (2001). It was actually the most played song of the 2000s on U.S. radio by Nielsen Soundscan, being spun over 1.2 million times on U.S. airwaves since its release in 2001 to the end of 2009. Even though, it came out in '01, it didn't sound dated in 2008/2009 like most songs from '01 did.

Agree 100%. I was just going to say the same song. "How You Remind Me" was a departure from Nickleback's early "underground" stuff. It sounded much less "Post-Grungy" and much more "poppy" than what they'd done up to that point. If that song had come out in 2008, I doubt anybody would've noticed, whereas other 2001 rock songs (like Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse and My Sacrafice by Creed) would've really stuck out.

Absolutely. 4 years after "Hanging by a Moment", Lifehouse released "You and Me" in 2005 and that was very different from "Hanging by a Moment".

Yeah anything post-grunge. There wasn't a huge difference between the sound of "How You Remind Me" in 2001 and "No Surprise" by Daughtry in 2009.

This song inspired this thread. It may be from 2003, but it sounds like something from a late '00s Disney Channel movie/Disney sitcom: TNHYP7DErh4 However, yeah, I agree that early '00s Nickelback is even more pan-'00s than that song.

Yeah, I agree that "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback is quite possibly the most "pan-'00s" song. The only other song I can think of is this;
Dakota - Stereophonics (2005)
I don't think this song would have sounded too out of place if it had of been released in the Early or Late 2000s, in my opinion.

I'm still giving a shot out to Thong by Sisqo. Its the opening to the 2000s to me.

Yeah, it's the opening but not the middle or end. "Thong Song" by Sisqo came out in 2000 and pretty much every song from that year became dated by 2004/2005 ("Thong Song" included). "Thong Song" can't be the most pan-'00s song because it definitely would of stuck out if it came out in 2008.
