Subject: Did you guys think Dreamworks or Pixar was better?

Written By: Baltimoreian on 03/25/17 at 3:21 pm

I've been wondering the debate of certain animation companies during the 2000s. While Walt Disney Pictures wasn't the best (with only The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch, and Brother Bear being popular at the time), they were great with making CGI animated films with Pixar. But at the same time, Dreamworks was around making movies like Shrek 1 & 2, Spirit, Road to El Dorado, and Madagascar for example. However I'm gonna honest, is it debatable that Dreamworks was the king of animation during the 2000s?

In my honest opinion, I think Pixar did better than Dreamworks, since they did have great movies like Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, and Up. But I just think maybe both of them great during the early-mid 2000s. So what do you guys prefer?

I'm going with Pixar because their films were well done throughout the 2000s. Yeah, DreamWorks had great movies as well, but it seems they died down for a short time after 2006 due to having a few bad ones (They were not awful though.)

I think Shark Tale, Over The Hedge, and Flushing Away kinda killed Dreamworks' prosperity within the 2000s. They weren't really as great as their other movies from 1998-2005, but they were still giving the company a chance after 2006.

I would say it's pretty debatable. Tom Hanks did a pretty solid job acting in Saving Private Ryan. It's truly one of my favorites of all time.

Pixar. No question about it.

I like Shrek 1, but in retrospect, Pixar's 2000s output is far more timeless and not as hit/miss as DreamWorks, which employed its modernized style to satirical effect in Shrek 1 but otherwise came off as hip and gimmicky.

Dreamworks was in a slump from 2004 to 2008, then they came back with Kung Fu Panda, but now it looks like they're in a slump again.

To me, they were in a slump between 2005-2008. Then How to Train Your Dragon came, and I never really thought Chris Sanders (AKA the creator of Lilo and Stitch) could actually make another good franchise ever again to me.

I respect DreamWorks but they rarely captures my taste in creativity. For god sake, what the hell is Monsters Vs. Aliens?! Who thought of that? DreamWorks to me is both, try to hard and don't try hard enough.

Shark Tale, Madagascar and Over The Hedge are incredibly mediocre and thoughtless.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on those last 2 movies but you know....whatevs.

Pixar I think. Monsters Inc is still one of my faves. I did enjoy Dreamworks a lot back in the 2000's but I feel their films haven't aged as well as Pixar's as Pixar were in their prime and made masterpieces, in the 2000's they were almost unstoppable. However I think Kung Fu Panda is Gold! xD Dreamwork's two films that they made in collaboration with Aardman, Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit are absolutely brilliant and I love them as I'm a big fan of stop motion in general but I think they're more Aardman's films as opposed to Dreamworks.

I simply think Madagascar was the better movie out of the three of them. At least it was quite interesting to watch, while the latter two weren't really acclaimed. Hence why I think 2000-2005 were the better years for Dreamworks.

I'm bias. The animation color of both movies completely throws me off. Very bland to me.
