What do you guys think are the pros and cons of the rock from these two decades.

Xtreme Emo is the best. MySpace Emo sucks.

Rock from the real 00s sucks.

90s Pros:
* Grunge.
* The best pop punk.
* Pre-Human Clay post-grunge.
* Britpop.
* General culture of experimentation.
* Breakbeat alternative.

00s Pros:
* Peak of indie rock.
* The White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, and Arcade Fire.
* Underground songs generally have more complex structures, though this trend really began in 1997 with Radiohead's OK Computer.

90s Cons:
* Some of the more popular songs on the radio lacked the vivacity of 80s rock..

00s Cons:
* Much more manufactured.
* Mostly a continuation of genres that existed in the 90s, only less interesting.
* The best rock music doesn't expand far beyond the indie category.

Pretty good song but not better than Fall of Troy imo.
Also ATDI is Post-Hardocre

That is fine as it's your opinion but I gotta that Glassjaw are probably the best Post-Hardcore band. The early records of bands like Refused, The Used, ATDI, Thursday, Keepsake and Glasseater are also up there with the good stuff.

Also ATDI is Post-Hardocre

They're definitely Post-Hardcore but they're also pretty Emo.

That's their most Emo song but if you listen to the melodies, songwriting and chord progressions on In/Casino/Out and Relationship you can hear the Emo. ATDI and Glassjaw have incredibly similar sounds but I look at it like this: ATDI is Post-Hardcore but they have a noticeable amount of an Emo focus whereas Glassjaw are more Post-Hardcore with a small but still apparent Emo focus. I've always seen Worship and Tribute as the less Emo, louder and heavier cousin to Relationship in Command.

You're entitled to your opinion. I like and own both Relationship and Worship so it doesn't matter to me. Quality early 00's Post-Hardcore. I still think Relationship is a lot more Emo and less heavy than Worship. There's soft moments on the album but overall it's an incredibly heavy and metallic Post-Hardcore album, like Glassjaw is in general. Both EYEWTKAS and W&T are like this while In/Casino/Out and Relationship in Command are somewhat softer (but they're also pretty trippy) and showcase the Emo side of Post-Hardcore.

A lot of those songs are pre-2003. Like, Nothing Left Too Lose is from Puddle of Mudd's 2003 album (also, the song sounds straight outta 1997).

Green Day are the band who got me into Punk when they released Dookie back in 1994. I was a huge, huge fan from then up to 2002. When they released American Idiot in 2004 I was hugely disappointed and ever since then I have not liked the band at all. The Green Day I grew up with died April 18th, 2003.

I love rock from both decades, particularly the mid-late '90s and the early-mid '00s. Actually, I would say that "my era" musically is roughly 1996-2006, as before '96 I was too young to care, and after '06 I stopped following pop culture as closely as I had been.

If I just had to pick one decade though, I'd probably lean ever so slightly to '00s rock, mostly because of the Garage Rock/Post-Punk revival stuff that was so popular between 2001-2006. The Strokes, The White Stripes, Interpol, The Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, The Hives, Franz Ferdinand, man that era had some kickass rock! 8)

YouTube comments are usually mind-numbingly stupid. For some reason, the most cancerous commenters tend to have Sonic the hedgehog, MLP, anime, or Minecraft avatars. :P (not saying those things are bad in and of themselves).

Also, this will enrage Jordan further, but it seems that as time goes on, I've noticed more and more people using "early 2000s" to refer to the whole 2000s decade, rather than just 2000-2003. I would complain, but I guess it kinda makes sense, considering when people say "early 1900s", it's usually the 1900s-1920s. :P

They literally thought High School Musical was an early 2000s movie, despite being released in 2006. Although, the early 2000s is really confusing for those who didn't truly remember it. Hell, I could only remember 2002 and 2003 of the era, and I would say they're WAY different than the mid 2000s.

Not all of them are cancerous. Hell, even Sonic fans aren't that terrible compared to 2008/2009. However, I could say that MLP became cancerous as Sonic since 2010, when FIM premiered.

In reply to Jordan.

Christ, this is a terrible video. Why do they talk like morons? Jesus, it's like they want to go back to 2005 or something.

Consider me enraged. I bet it's kids born in 2001-ish (younger than Sum 41's debut!) or something who call the whole 2000's the "early 00s".

Yes Jordan people born in 2001 who are 00s kids would call the whole 2000s the "early 00s."

I don't really think he was referring to you. He was referring to the girls who made the video. But in any case, I don't know how you find the entire 2000s as the early 2000s. Politically, pop culturally, and world events wise, it wasn't the same.

2000 was basically the last full Clinton year.
2001-2003 were the early Bush years, with 9/11, the War on Terror, and Iraq War as common topics.
2004-2007 were Bush's main years, since that's when a lot of people didn't like him as president.
2008-2009 was the backlash of the decade, along with Obama's presidency rising up.

That's basically the 2000s as a whole, according to what I know about U.S. presidencies. Finding them all as the early 2000s seems weird. Nobody had YouTube, iPhones, HDTVs, or anything like that during the early 2000s. When I think about the early '00s, I think about the declining 90s vibes that continued from 1998 and 1999. That's the early 2000s to me. Though, some early 2000s kids like mqg96 could give a similar answer, but that's my thoughts.

They fought will all their might to stop this inaccuracy and misinformation, but...they couldn't in the end.

They call it the United States of "America", because the country's located in North America. Besides, nobody in America wouldn't even care, since we kept the name in 1776.

Well usually to not confuse people I say different words. Early 2000s to me is 2000-2003. Early 21st century would be 2000-2030s. 2000s can either be the century or the decade. But this is happens with the first decade of every century.

Good Charlotte when they were a good band who added pseudo-raps into their music. You know if it's Pop Punk with lots of raps it's gonna be good 2000-2003 music:

hW3xcwCqVLA

d4dSbg4eZW0

Then, in 2004 when the real 2000's began, like every other rock band with raps they got rid of the raps and turned super lame:

js8pCCxcVuc

0cqKCb8Ydpc

Sum 41 were also really good Pop Punk back in the day and had lots of rap in their music:

nTUdsCiJrAY

yYPP-aDvoHQ

BYq0rJS0Eig

hn9sVkJuaUc

Then what happens in 2004? Sum 41 turned to total sh!t, of course. They started wearing their hair over their faces and making garbage songs that sounded like My Chemical Romance and Oasis b-sides but they decided that they were gonna do faux-Emo versions of Nu Metal and 80's Metallica, too.

E3oDVDyOrAQ

This one especially makes me cringe when he sings into the f*cking megaphone like he's the hero to some political rally. Shut the hell up! In 2001 and 2002 (the only good years of the 2000's along with 2000 and, to a lesser extent, 2003) you were rapping about Spider-Man, what do you know about politics? Go back to singing about chicks and spiking your hair...

I remember in 2000 when Makes No Difference came out and I was stoked the Sums were going places. Then in 2001 and 2002 when all the cool videos from All Killer, No Filler were played on MTV I thought "this rules!" Then the video for What We're All About Came Out and I was totally into it. I remember when Still Waiting came out and I thought "RAD! This sounds like Strung Out!" and they did that hilarious Stokes parody. 2003, things were looking up when the totally sick video for The Hell Song came out and they were dicking around with their toys and crap but I should of just given up on the band when Deryck dated Paris Hilton and betrayed the Pop Punk brotherhood of 1994-2003.

If I was at this party I would of thrown my drink at the TV and intellectually exclaimed how abysmally abhorred the new Sum 41 number is. I would proceed to discuss my disappointment with and wish they would trek back to the olden days of before and rap about lame chicks and Spider-Man. Pieces!? I scoff at you! How absurd!

I told you this before, Paris Hilton destroy Sum 41 and their mighty legacy. They are one of the greatest Pop Punk bands of 2000-2003 but then Paris Hilton decided to f*ck things up. Avril was just beating a dead horse.

I prefer Rap Pop Punk about being pissed off at chicks and Spider-Man instead of songs about being sad about the MySpace servers being down for maintenance. If you're gonna be sad at least makes the music upbeat like Simple Plan did in 2002 when they were good. When he sings about how hard it is to be a kid I feel sorry for him because the music's good. When Panic at the Disco sing about how "dark" their hearts are it makes me wanna beat their ugly faces in.

It was anything but awesome... 8-P The first Simple Plan album is super good. The lyrics are kinda stupid but at least it wasn't about MySpace and they made up for it by being loud and fast! They used the skate punk beat on almost every song, too. Man, they even start singing about doing the nasty with aliens and crap. That's what real Pop Punk is about. Then, in 2004, they decided "oh, we need to tone it down and be lame" so they made that crappy "Still Not Getting Any" and it's all been downhill from there.

It came out in 2000 so it's faux-90's and what-if 00's which is the same case for 2001 and 2002. 2003 is iffy but if it came out 2004-onward then it's totally real 00's. I heard Good Charlotte's Anthem on my Classic Rock radio station two weeks ago. The early 00's are now classic. ;)

Yeah, it came outta nowhere, too. They were playing the usual Pink Floyd and Guns and Roses and all of a sudden the Anthem comes on. I hope they start playing more 2000-2003 classics! I was pretty happy to hear it too because Young and Hopeless is one of my top Pop Punk records. I was 20 when that came out and I didn't think "kids these days" at all. I got into Pop Punk in 1994 and we were still in that post-Dookie/Smash wave during the days of the Anthem though by time that song came out in 2003, it started dying off in favor of... Fall Out boy... Good Charlotte on their first two albums sounded exactly like Buffalo to Before Everything and After era MxPx and I already liked the first album so of course the second one is right up my alley.
