Subject: Favorite 2000s Video Game Music
Written By: SpyroKev on 02/26/16 at 9:05 am
As I seen the 90s version, I had to make a 2000s version. There are some incredible actual Early 2000s sounding video game music I continuously need to praise.
My favorite video game soundtrack albums of all time:
Capcom Vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000
Pokémon Stadium 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku
True Crime: Streets of LA. Not for the unnecessary negative wordings in a good handful of the game's soundtrack, just mainly the sound alone.
Honorable mentions:
Spyro: Year of The Dragon has some of that In your face extreme sound. Especially the skate park theme.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai is up there. I barely got into the video game series. I just preferred watching the animated series.

I hate to keep bashing on 2006-2009, but it seems that around 2006, games lost the catchy techno/rock-styled music they had in the 90s and 2000-2005 and switched to a more orchestral style, which I find boring.
If anything, this drives home the fact that many modern games are more like interactive movies than games.

True true. I've noticed that as well. By the time of the 7th gen I've been seeing more big titles with orchestral music. I don't mind that kind of music, but it tends to sound a bit samey at times. Companies do this to try and give their game a big cinematic feel. They want it to feel like a movie since movies usually have orchestral music. We have a lot of games that try to be like interactive movies. Biggest example is Order 1886.

In 2005, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland was released and, although it's a good game, it featured awful songs from American Idiot-Green Day and Fall Out Boy. You could also play as eyeliner Billie Joe Armstrong with his stupid red tie and everything!

On that point, I want to ask you this question. Do you like anything from 2006-2009?

Not many people played this game, but it's got really mellow and chill music. In fact, this is one of my favorite games.

This is technically a fan remix and not the original song, but still.
This remix makes me feel really happy and nostalgic for some reason.

This is a bittersweet song that takes me back to 2007-08 school year in high school, particularly Spring 2008. It's from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS2). One of my favourite games of all time.

I love everything produced by Shoji Meguro, it's always a masterpiece.
