Subject: Early 00's Nu Metal/Pop Punk scene?
Written By: WebTraveller on 01/22/16 at 5:21 pm
I remember as a kid seeing the teenagers with the baggy jeans with the chain, and the hoodies with bands on them like Blink 182, Sum 41, Slipknot etc. Did anyone live this era as a teenager/young adult? which year was its peak?

I started going to Pop Punk shows in 1996 and stopped around 2005. Didn't like Nu Metal but I saw all those Pop Punk bands live. Man, The Offspring, blink-182, Sum 41, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, The Riddlin Kids, all the bands on Drive Thru Records and Fat Wreck, Gob, The Get Up Kids, Treble Charger, you name it. I went to every Warped Tour from 1996 to 2005 as well (2004 and 2005 were awful).
Both Pop Punk and Nu Metal's peak was around 1998-2003. They were both huge, huge things during the Y2K era. I think 2003 is when things started to change; they had either gone away (Nu Metal) or changed into a more core 2000's sound by 2004 (Pop Punk and Emo).
Another thing I loved about the early 2000's.

I was 13-years-old in 2000 so, needless to say, there are many things about myself back in those days that I'm not proud of looking back. ;D
In a way, I was sort of like the ultimate "Nu Metal kid". One of the first CD's I ever brought with my own money was "Follow the Leader" by Korn, I used to print Limp Bizkit lyrics out on my parents computer and keep them in my school notebook, I waited in line at Sam Goody to buy Linkin Park's "Meteora" on the day it came out, I had a really stupid looking Kid Rock t-shirt that I wore all the time, and was even a member of the Linkin Park Underground fan club. Back in the early '00s, my default look was spiked hair, baggy jeans with wallet chain, and a Deftones hoodie, so one of those teenagers you saw could've easily been me.
Like I said, many things I'm not proud of. :-[

This post reeks of 2000-2003!! Oh man.
Spiky hair, chain wallets and baggy pants are still my default look. :P
